First off, I want to say that I love Fox Sports World and GolTV. For those of you not lucky enough to receive both, you have my sincerest sympathies.
FSW provides great coverage from England, Holland, France and Germany, Argentina and Brazil, not to mention of course our MLS. At the same time, GolTV shows Italian Serie A and La Liga matches all the time, and also includes some good regional tournaments (like the CONMEBOL Olympic Qualifiers). It's great to have both.
All that being said, I would like to know from the people who have both networks what ideas work well on one station that could perhaps be negotiated into the other. In other words, what's one station doing "better" than the other that they could work on.
Me personally, and again, I'm not complaining here at all, but I feel that I see too many repeat matches on FSW whereas on GolTV it's more of a rarity. GolTV on the other hand dubs over other countries' football shows, while FSW goes the extra mile and does its own with the FSW Report.
So what do you guys think?

The problem with FSW is all the replays. You can watch the same EPL match 3 or more times a week. Also the variety of matches Gol TV gives 3-5 matches each of La Liga and Serie A.While FSW elects to show 2 of their EPL matches on ppv.I know since I got Gol tV I always watch Serie A or La Liga at 11 on Sun mornings instead of buying the EPL.With Gol TV you get the big matches without ppv.The next Arsenal-Man U match is an 11:00 EST time start. That'll definately be ppv.THe UEFA Cup coverage on Gol TV has been great usually 3 matches each matchday to FSW's one.So I guess I'm trying to say FSW needs to show more matches.

Yes, I feel the same way, but I must admit that my main league preferences are the EPL and Bundesliga. Don't get me wrong though - I will gladly suffer through Inter vs Juve or Real Madrid vs Valencia!

Because FSWorld is a mature business, it doesn't have to air more than the minimum number of matches necessary to keep its subscriber base.
In contrast, Gol TV is a start-up and needs as many big matches as it can get its hands on in order to sign big MSOs to build its subscriber base.
Look for Gol TV to cut back on the number of products it offers once Gol TV matures as a business. Products such as Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Guatemala, and possibly even Italy are expendable.
Gol TV only has to keep Spain (expensive), Mexico (sublicense from Telemundo), El Salvador, Colombia (so it can get MSOs in New York City to sign) and Uruguay (free since Gol TV parent Tenfield owns worldwide rights).

Oliver, that is true, but I think you are missing the point. Even if they only keep La Liga, they will still show 3-5 La Liga matches in a weekend, not 2 like FSW does with the Premiership. They currently do not have a PPV side business that diverts the best matches away from the main channel, as does FSW.

I think we may see way more EPL next season. The latest bidding for the EPL involves all 380 matches. The present contract only involves 180 matches. So with more matches available FSW will show more EPL and at the same time drop Dutch, French and German leagues.
Do read this the same way, Oliver?

I think Oliver said something like this will happen. The telecast schedules and PPV timeslots will depend on how many games get moved away from 10:00 E.T. in order to satisfy the increased number of games that will air on Sky, Sky's Premiership Plus PPV, and a TBD free-broadcaster. Supposedly there may be a game or two at 2:00 ET on Saturday. Probably more Monday games too.

It is not frozen in stone that the additional matches will automatically go to Fox, despite the stranglehold SKY has been able to keep on rights in the UK.
I suspect the only reason Fox might pay LOT for more EPL is to prevent somebody else (such as GOL TV) from grabbing some of the matches.
Also there could be some political pressure back in England to encourage the export of that "TBD free-broadcaster" package to groups other than those who already are in line.

Actually, I love the replays. Means I don't have to worry with the danged VCR.

Actually, the entire season is up for grabs for just one bidder. The package would only be split up if some one bought the rights and then subleased them out. I somehow don't think Fox would let that happen.
Personally, I can't see GOL TV wanting the Premiership as their main base of customers are deemed spanish-speaking so really La Liga and Real Madrid is there only interest.
Without buying the Premiership rights FSW will have no reason to stay in business. EPL is it's bread and butter.

Correct. EPL is now selling rights by country where possible, FOX will acquire them wherever necessary- North America, Asia, and Oceania, plus they will probably get the rights through sublicensing from agencies in Africa and the Middle East if they don't buy them directly. According to Oliver, FSW will keep the rights if they match anything Setanta or Gol TV bids. FSW needs the EPL.

And with the recent mini-influx of American players into the Premiership, with the prospect of more headed over, it makes more sense than ever for FSW ride the EPL bandwagon!

I prefer the GolTV dubbed-over reports. It's funny how everyone is always asking for the original countries' programming, and then when they get them, say things like the above.
To borrow from another thread, FSW Report isn't a tenth as good as the old "EPL Show"...
