Just curious what everyone feels. I thought I'd add these stats as the
'fire Benitez' thread was closed.

I like Benitez and feel we should stick to him as we have been getter better and better each season. I do believe he can win the EPL. I only wish he would sub players in earlier than 70min and be more adventurous in his formation.:)

Anyways, here are the 2 managers and how they stack up,

houllier - 1998/99 - 2003/2004
points - 54, 67, 69, 80, 64, 60,
avg 65.67 points/season or 1.728 points/game

Benitez - 2004/2005 - present
points - 58, 82, 68, 76, and currently 51 (24 matches)
avg 71.00 points/season (first 4 seasons only) or 1.903 points/game (including this season so far)

So based on this, Benitez has been more successful, along with oh 2 CL finals and 1 CL trophy.

Benitez has a better record but has had a better team imo.

I want Rafa gone come the end of the season. And even I don't think it's fair to compare him to Ged! Rafa is a much better manger. Though Ged was decent before he got sick.

Houllier is a good coach, but not the one that the club needed. The following opinion has been soundly criticized on the board, but I still maintain that the biggest thing Benitez has done is to increase our expectations. With Houllier, if we were out of the title race early, it sucked, but it wasn't exactly a surprise. Now, we expect to win every game while challenging for the title and go deep into at least two cups. Yes, there's more disappointment now if we fail, but I don't see how Houllier could have gotten us to this even level.

Jesus!

Let's have another Rafa thread.

OMFG!

What is it with an uprising in beating dead horses? I don't understand it at all.

Rafa > Houllier. End of. No discussion.

I think Houllier was the best coach in the history of the EPL. He did more with less than anyone -- except maybe Paul Jewell. Benitez isn't fit to untie Houllier's sandal.

I think the Big Mac is the best burger in the history of food.

I'd be surprised if a lot of the 'play station' fans we seem to be picking up even know about Ged or who he was. You know the ones I mean, they appear after we draw or lose and tell us, and Rafa how it should have been.

My FIFA 09 Liverpool team has won every single league, every single cup, for more than 15 years running.

PS: I also coached Fernando Torres into how to score more than 60 goals in a season.
Should I be expecting to hear from Gillet and Hicks soon?

And in everyone else's games they have bought Messi, Xavi, Dani Alves, Lahm, Villa and Silva...why cant you buy these players Rafa? Stop messing around and get buying!!!

FIFA has made everyone think that management is simple and that they could run a club.

Maybe, but you'd have to also consider what kind of budgets they had to spend on building those teams...

Umm....I'm not sure about that. Maybe if the person is 12yo.... It's a game.....

I think Houlier did have sufficient backing from the board, relatively more than Benitez if one takes into account the fees prevailing at that time, and largely got his targets. While he got us some real gems, Hyypia for example, he was, in the main, let down by his big-money signings. And he seemingly couldn't cut his losses.

But this one has been done to death, as LB has so graphically pointed out.
