Except that Marc Albert does football on the radio too. Good for Sean, best of luck to him too. Calling football is tough. It is kind of a funny spin on the old Euro-centric crowd... that if it isn't a British accent doing a soccer game than it isn't worth anything. I don't know what kind of expierence or knowledge Sean has of footbaal but it seems that an American accent is what the BBC was looking for.
In London, England's World Cup-winning rugby captain Martin Johnson will join Five Live correspondent Phil Williams at a Ministry of Sound's "Superbash", with England rugby star Matt Dawson and England goalkeeper David James also in attendance.

The bigger your repertoire, the more gigs you get.
With a name like Wheelock he should be doing nascar.

The guy is atrocious every time I see him on TV. Somehow I think this BBC gig won't last long.

If you read the article it sounds like it's just the Superbowl.

So let me see if I have this straight? If a guy who works in soccer makes some cash doing a sport besides soccer, he is somehow selling out?
So, when Rob Stone does college football games for ESPN, JP Dellacamrra does hockey for the Thrashers and Dave Johnson does NBA games for the Wizards, when Tommy Smyth does horse racing for ESPN, or Max Bretos does Rugby for FSW, they're all selling out?
Got it. Nevermind their passion for the sport or, more to the point, the commitment they've made to promote the game during the years, fighting with their bosses to get more soccer coverage and doing anything they could to help get soccer on the air, these guys are sellouts because they helped support their families by using their chosen craft on a sport besides soccer.
Good to know what the criteria are.
BTW, Wheelock doing NFL games in England isn't new.

Yeah. Sean sucks and all us wanna-be media super-stars are sitting at a keyboard wishing like hell we were somehow invloved in professional sports.

I know I am.
I wonder if he's going to use Britishisms: "Oh dear! The less said about that screen pass, the better."

Speak for yourself. I wish I was somehow involved with the movie business. Frankenwheelock can have his gig. No jealousy involved, just not impressed with him.

Next thing you know Jeff Bradley and Grant Wahl will be writing about baseball or college basketball or some other godforsaken sport.

Jerzy"rebel" whom do you hate/envy more, Wheelock or Bergi?
You're just a cesspool of hate.

I never said I hate Wheelock and I never said I hate Bergin. I'm just not impressed with Wheelock or with some of the things Bergin does. Hate is a strong word. Those guys are in the public eye and some people are going to like them and some aren't going to be that crazy about them.
Now, I do think Steven Goff does a great job. I don't hate him. How's that for you?

"The Patriots pass rush is just at sixes and sevens today!"

Upon further review...
I think he should go for a tone similar to that of darts announcers.
Oh, wait. NFL announders already do that.

If he were a typical bigsoccer newbie, he'd spend the whole game talking about how the NFL sucks because it doesn't have pro/rel.
