Well today the team was once again humiliated, this time vs. Boca in a Mendoza friendly match. When is this going to come to an end? My question is, why doesn't Gorosito attempt to change anything? The team has been playing horribly for the last 8 months, that's not a coincidence. We played 6 friendly match in January, so why couldn't he attempt different formations? Why couldn't he attempt putting players in different positions? This is past any logic, in my opinion. It was THE time to try different tactics. This team isn't going to change if we see the same faces with the same exact formation.
Now my other question, when are we going to "sweep" out those mediocre players? When are we going to get rid of Diego Barrado, Omar Merlo, Rodrigo Archubi, Matias Abelairas, Juan Marcelo Ojeda, Gustavo Cabral, Martin Galmarini, etc. These players are clearly not any where near the level required to play in River, so what the hell are they doing here? The first step to making the club return to where it should be, they must leave. But no, what does Aguilar do? He keeps them and tries opening the door to more sub-par players like a 33 year old Andres Scotti, a Juan Mercier whose played the majority of his career in the 3rd division, etc.
Thankfully, it's Aguilar's last year. Hopefully we'll see a change to all this starting in 2010. Hopefully.. This thread was created to discuss news regarding River Plate's campaign in the Copa Libertadores, Torneo Clausura/Apertura, and Copa Sudamericana 2009. Let's hope that all the posts do not reflect off of this specific post, but seeing how the team is playing, it is hard to imagine otherwise until a CHANGE is made.
Regardless of all this, my pasion for this club is inevitable. Like the song says, "Sos la alegria de mi corazon, lo mas grande de la Argentina!". I'm not going to put up black flags like some others, leave during halftime like some others, or even less put speakers in the stands like some others. All I ask is for a change. Vamos River!

My view as an outsider, i'm hearing from some people claiming that actually Gorosito changed the tactical sketch too much through the summer.

Really? Let's take a look at the past and present teams.
Simeone's typical line-up (Apertura 2008):
Ojeda;
Ferrari-Cabral-Tuzzio-Villagra;
A. Fernandez-Ahumada-Abelairas-Buonanotte;
Falcao-Salcedo;
Gorosito's current line-up:
Ojeda;
Ferrari-Cabral-N. Sanchez-Villagra;
A. Fernandez-Ahumada-Abelairas-Buonanotte;
Falcao-Rosales;
Differences? Not too many. We still see a Buonanotte that plays on the left more than as a playmaker (well, excluding last night's friendly), an undefined left-winger (no clear player who attacks on the left flank and centers the bal to the forwards), etc. In fact, it's difficult to determine the differences between the two line-ups and formations when they are so similar.
It is true that things were changes up a bit vs. Boca yesterday (Galmarini, Barrado, and Domingo in), but that was more of a "requirement" for Gorosito (Galmarini replaced an unfit Villagra, Barrado replaced an injured Augusto, and Domingo came in for an underperforming Buonanotte).

I am so F$CKING pissed I can't see straight.:mad:
One thing I know is that RIVER players nowadays don't care for the f'n club. This Gallardo A-HOLE has now decided he is not going to take the medical exam until Gorosito tells him he will "make use of him" - can you believe the nerve of this guy? RIVER paid money to get him out of DC United and now the mother f'r is making demands. F&CK YOU GALLARDO! GO F*CK YOURSELF!
RIVER sucks ASS. There is no other way to put it. And why? Because a team that shoots for little, achieves little. A club that demands little, receives in return little or nothing. A club that rehires a failed coach or hires one with little experience or meager achievements will attain just that. A coach that demands little of his players will be given little effort. A coach that makes up excuses and justifications for his players mistakes, immaturity and lack of desire encourages every single one of those faults. For years now, the parade of mediocre coaches that have come through the club has been comical. "Coaching for a club like RIVER is lindo (beautiful)" - that is the essence of the plan of action each and everyone of these clowns has had. At the end of each tragic game, the coach appears to roll a dice to see who to blame between himself, the fans or cruel, merciless fate. Funny how fate has chosen to f&ck ONLY with RIVER for almost 10 years now. If toxic players are bad for a team, an undecisive coach has a even worst effect. Players, both good and bad, will quickly see through a weak, clueless coach. They will loose confidence and then respect. At that point, it's over.
Players also must to have conviction and maturity. If players don't have or show desire, is probably because they never had the need. A good number of these kids probably come from well-to-do families that have connections within the club. At the end of the day, if they fail, they go back home to Mama y Papa and their comfortable lives. RIVER needs to send its scouts to the slums and to the interior of the country. They need to look for and identify skillful and respectful kids with potential. They must have nothing, come from nothing and be hungry for just the chance to show what they can do for the club. Futbol must be the only way out for them. The presense of these poor kids in the club - with the full backing of the club's directives - will serve to stimulate the not-so-needy ones and create a healthy, competitive atmosphere.
The fans say Aguilar, the current club president, and his board of directors are the ones to blame. Yet in the last election, at a time when RIVER was not doing so good, the guy was re-elected. They say he has stolen or poorly invested the money and left the team almost bankrupt. I am not in Argentina and can't be sure of these accusations. But, at this point - perhaps for some time now -, it's clear a change in leadership is needed. I don't know who these people are that keep complaining on the fan websites. I don't know if they are club members or just fans. If they are members, I don't know what the f%ck they're waiting to do something to remove the president? Is there nothing in the club by-laws that allows members to call for such an action? I mean this is SERIOUS SH1T! This is LOOONG past some pissed off fan's simple grievances or complaints. RIVER's got a BIG F*CKING PROBLEM. Here is a club with over 107 years of history - one of Argentina's biggest clubs and one of the most famous in the world - who has lost its soul and is about to fall into the country's B league. I mean, I would affraid to watch this RIVER play against the MLS champ!!!!

Uh, no.. River didn't pay DC United anything. With all due respect, Gallardo has the right to know if he's going to be playing on Gorosito's team before taking the medical exam. He has a good offer from Estudiantes, who are coached by his friend and ex-coach Astrada, so why would he waste his time taking exams if he's not going to play for River?

Oh come on...I mean really, what is Gallardo affraid of? If he performs as he should (and says) why shoudn't Gorosito or any other coach not play him? What's wrong with earning a position? Or does he think RIVER should just be thankful he is back, just pay him and demand nothing in return.
And regarding the money, you say RIVER did not pay. Really...how does that work? DC United paid a good amount of money to sign Gallardo, they sold off one of their star Cristian Gomez in the process, and were expecting Gallardo to be there in Spring training. Are you saying they just gave him a big sloppy kiss and send him off?

Gorosito previously said Gallardo wasn't his priority, while Astrada really wants him in Estudiantes. What would you do at the age of 33: go to a team where you might be on the bench a great amount of time, or go to one where you are guaranteed to play a majority of the games? You can't blame the guy, he's on the last stage of his carreer.

DC United didn't pay a good amount of money for a transfer fee: MLS did. They brought him as a free agent though, so it wasn't a ridiculous number either.
Still, Gallardo brought up that he wanted to leave and they didn't want to have an unhappy player. Besides, he was payed an annual $1.9 million (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/04/03/ST2008040304443.html), which was too much for a player who didn't perform up to the expected level. It was good for both sides. Gallardo got to leave, and DC United saved half of their overall wage budget.

Look, you and I love RIVER. I see and can appreciate your point of view. However, I think his loyalty should be to the team that made him what he is. I think we can both agree how detrimental all these individual egos have been for RIVER overall. RIVER is in trouble; it's in baaad shape. You and I know the root of these issues lies somewhere else. Now, if that's what worries Gallardo then he should just stay away man; maybe even take Astrada's offer. RIVER needs help and this is hardly the time to make demands of a very depressed and disheartened team.
Aguante RIVER! Me parte el alma verte asi.:(

Unfockingbelieveable!!:mad: We're up 2-0 with an extra man and we end up tieing lolely Colon 2-2. The team actually played well too. I don't know whose fault it was on those goals, although I'm leaning towards Ojeda, but somebody shouldn't have given Capurro and Prediger too much space. Once again, this team doesn't have a leader on the field. Or a veteran player that knows how to take control of a game. Hopefully once "Muneco" is fully fit, he can be that one. Or maybe Ortega if he returns.

It's still typical of River last year. Playing great is one thing, losing composure and losing solid leads is another. It's getting frustrating.

What a horrible match against Colon, not because we played badly, actually we played pretty well, but because it pretty much proved just how unlucky we are (as well as making it pretty damn clear that we need a solid DM, and that Ahumada doesn't cut it anymore apparently): we had one shot hit the post, and two shots that on any other day would have gone into the stands went straight into the upper corner; not Ojeda's fault at all, he was caught off guard because the midfield got complacent and didn't put any pressure on the two Colon players.
God how I hope that Fabbiani and Gallardo improve things :(

December seems so far away :/ Aguilar la concha de tu madre.
As for the game vs Colon, the team played well and deserved to win by 3 gols atleast but soccer has these things. Need to win tonight to build up some conifidence.

Well it was agonizing until the end. Regardless of whether it was a handball by Fabbiani or not, the goal by Buonanotte counted, and River logged it's first victory under "Pipo" Gorosito by winning 1-0 over Nacional of Paraguay.

Fabbiani is an idol already. It was enuff for him to put the jersey on and to start warming up for the Monumental to go mental. Then, a backheel that didn't find a teammate in his first touch was equally acclaimed by the home crowd.
Toward the end of the game, you could see the enourmous help Fabbiani has brought to River. Creating chances for his team mates, almost scoring a header and "managing" to hold on to a header into the 18 yd box and almost score. The rebound meant River's Buonanotte's goal. If it was a handball or if Dieguito was offside is pure anecdote, as it meant securing 3 points.
But the best was yet to come. Smartly, and using all his skills and overweight, he singlehandedly kept the ball under his sole and ran the clock down, while Pipo was asking for the time to be called by the ref.
At the end of the game, Fabbiani received a heroe's recognition by the fans, as he left the field last ... he was approached by every single newsmedia on the field at the end of the game.
3 pts, and leaders of Group 3 along Nacional of Montevideo.

Goooooooooool de Fabbiani who just came in! 2-1 vs. Rosario Central with 20 minutes left. Grande Ogro!
Edit: The game just ended. River started off losing 1-0, but flipped the score after Fabbiani came in. Galmarini tied the game, and "el Ogro" finished it up. A completely different team with Fabbiani on the pitch.
