Update: Gallardo got his wish Friday, as D.C United agree to release him from his contract so he could go back and sign with Argentinian side River Plate according to The Washington Post.
Analysis: It's a shame to see Gallardo leave, but it's understandable. United were not very good last season, and it was Gallardo's first season away from River Plate, where he had known nothing but success. D.C now has a designated player slot available, but options are running out on who they can find to fill it.
