Dear Fellow Sports Fan:
Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed, and the Legislature is considering, imposing a Family Entertainment Tax; specifically broadening the state’s sales tax to sports events. THEY COULD BE DECIDING THIS ISSUE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. This proposed tax increase would for the first time ever in California impose a sales tax on sports event tickets and increase that sales tax by 1.5%. If approved, every sports event ticket sold in Los Angeles will include a 10.25 % sales tax.
In these tough economic times, with so many people struggling to make ends meet, it is just too much to be adding a new sales tax on to the cost of getting away to a sports event. It is unfair to single out sports fans for this unprecedented new tax. Sports fans will suffer, while others avoid any financial pain. Many working families will simply be priced out of previously accessible family entertainment.
If you believe this proposed sales tax on sports events is the wrong way to go, then we urge you to let the governor and legislative leaders know NOW how you feel. Write, fax, e-mail and/or telephone your opposition to this proposed sports event tax to:
