I predict 1860 will lose their license within the next 5 years again. Their Board is like the current administration in the US: They talk a good game, but when you get right down to it, its freak'n the same old shit, different bottle.

Not touching that one. That would need to be discussed over beers. ;)

I would post more but somehow I don't think what I would post would get past the Bs censors.

Totally believe you. If I didn't have more important shit going on here at work right now, I would have written one of my "essays" and the language would not have been pretty!

Thorandt is a fighter alright, but sometimes overly so. I personally think he would be great as a defensive midfielder. Screw Beda. With all the time he has had on the pitch he shows me nothing. Not like he sucks that bad, but its like we are playing with 10 men; 9 if Patzer Tschauner shows up.

I would usually try to defend Beda, but I have no grounds to stand on, so I won't.

I didn't think about Thorandt as a D-Mid. I think that could work too. But who would he replace? Or would he come in off the bench?

Don't ask me why, but somehow I think they should really try to keep Thorandt in the lineup.......

Today the board of 1860 (they call it a Presidium, makes it sound so Stalinist, huh?) released (http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/startseite/artikel/503856/) one of the best managers in German 2.BL football, perhaps in the 1.BL as well. His name? Stefan Reuter.

Forget for a moment the guy had to work with one of the most dysfunctional clubs in all of football. Forget that the fan base is so fractionalized that if you gave them weapons the carnage that would follow would make Kosovo look like 1st grade field trip. Forget that many of the fans are living in such a fantasy world they have no concept financial management, let alone the concept that winter returns about the same time each year. Forget that the club's management has a history of appointing megalomaniacs as "sport director" AND "finance director" AND giving them enough power to negotiate contracts binding the club to YEARS of debt payments. Forget that almost annually the club is in danger of losing its professional license - for the THIRD TIME in their professional history - due to this inability to manage its finances and live within its means. Forget that the club has had a carousel of managers and presidents in a vane attempt to reverse all of this. Forget it all!!!

Forget ALL of that - which, by the way, Reuter was instrumental (with others) in FIXING - and look at Reuter as a man. He is an HONEST, hard-working man, knowledgeable about football, has great contacts, a good media person, excellent financial and sporting skills and has the respect of those around him DESPITE working for 1860 and everyone knowing the club's dysfunctional nature.

Stefan Reuter WAS 1860 for the past few years!! He was the sole reason we are not playing in Regional Liga or lower. He was the reason we hired decent people in the back office. He was the reason the atmosphere at 1860, prior to today, was one of light-heartedness and not of doom and gloom. He was the reason the club was slowly crawling its way back to respect within the footballing business community. He was the reason 1860 was living up to its self-proclaimed moniker "Traditions Club".

But none of that seemed to matter to the 1860 board or many of the fans. It did not come fast enough. It did not come sexy enough for them. And now, they have chosen to release him to go elsewhere to do his work while 1860 goes back to their old ways. I hope desperately that I am wrong. I hope beyond hope that 1860 pulls their collective heads out of their collective arses and CONTINUES the good work Stefan Reuter began. Unfortunately, history tells us that 1860 will continue their pathetic attempts at regaining our proud history. My fear is that staying in the 2.BL is the LEAST of our worries right now.

So, Herr Reuter, "servus und alles gute" from those fans who appreciated what you did for the club. Thank you for resisting the temptation of power. Thank you for being the voice of reason. Thank you for teaching the Visigoths that head 1860 that you CAN be a man of principle on a shoe-string budget. Thank you for proving that respect CAN be won if you stick to your ideals. Lastly, as Douglas Adams noted in the final book of the Hitchhiker's trilogy, "So long and thanks for all the fish!"

With the recent departures, 1860 has updated the Mannschaftsfoto on their website with all the changes that have taken place. I have applied the "filter" of a sane fan so that those who do not follow 1860 every minute of every day can see just how dire our circumstances are:
http://www.mozartbrau.com/foto.jpg
Perpetually Injured= Rarely plays
Old= Over 30 and out of contract
X= Sold or fired
TBD= Future unclear

I have to go spread rep so I can give you more for this post man. That's one of the best posts you've ever written man.

I bullshit you not, tears were welling up with me.

I too will be hoping against hope this is not the beginning of the end of 1860 as we know it.

And I will begin my e-mail and fax assault on Borussia Dortmund to bring Reuter back "home......."

Thanks man. I hate blogging b/c who the F cares what I think....but I blogged this one.

Translated and posted in the German 1860 forum. Got 322 +reps and 257 neg reps. Go figure. Even sent to 1860 to have them forward to Reuter. Doubt they will...but watch my LoewenTV subscription get cut off.

Nah. They won't cut off your subscription! They still need the money! LOL!!

But man, this really feels like they simply sold out. I feel sick thinking about it.

And of course, they are already screaming what the unrealistic fans want to hear! "Promotion in 2010!!"

I hope they can f#cking back it up.

A sad state of affairs we have here, for sure. An ex-pat friend of mine, living in Munich, has been emailing me non-stop with the attrocities that are coming down. I am wondering if tickets will be easier to find now. ;-)

If anything, there will be more at the matches for the first part. More to protest if they hire Augenthaler.

But tickets will still be easy to find. You're still coming over for FSV Frankfurt, right??

I don't do that myself, so good luck with it. Most days, all you hear is the "TSV" one anyhow.

I think if you believe you're going to hear a medley of what's on the CDs you guys have, you might get disappointed.

Chants? That's easy.

Chant #1: (insert name of coach) Raus!
Chant #2: Raus aus der Arena
Chant #3: Raus aus das Schlachboot (variation of #2)
Chant #4: (insert name of rival fan club) kann mir im Arsch bussel'n.

Watching the videos now. One thing that ALWAYS scares me about 1860...when the President of the club talks too much I KNOW we are up Shit's Creek. What a cluster-f...you can see the new "investor" just gritting his teeth.

Very funny: The idiot president says "we are in discussions with Reuter" and the press is laughing because someone says "didn't you see him leaving 15 mins ago?"

Watch this (http://www.eyep.tv/index.php?id=75&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=2614&cHash=a9c1f59883). Honestly, I have not see crap this bad since Wildmoser. This is just BS. They have sent Reuter on vacation and he is "taking time off to think" about the new contract in front of him to be just sponsor and business director. If I were him I would moon the whole damn Board on my way home.

Keith, did you watch any of the press conference? A few things really stood out:
The Three Stooges (1860 Board) are absolutely delusional. They spent SOOO much time fending off questions - and rather valid questions at that - about the new investor and timing of the whole Reuter thing. The Board was visibly pissed off that the press was asking so many questions about these things. Welcome to the jungle boys.
The board is still working the party line that Reuter has an offer on the table. It was hysterical when they first mentioned that to the press because the whole room erupted in laughter and the board was totally stone-faced. They honestly believe that no decision has been made despite the fact Reuter left the grounds 15 mins earlier and is on tape as saying "I've been let go and have not seen any new contract. I have a current contract but they have just hired a new sporting director. We cannot have two. I have been offered to retain my current other positions but that is not acceptible"!!!! Do those moron actually believe the shit they spew or they are just really good pathological lairs and can hide their TRUE intentions.
Stevic looked week. VERY week. He allowed this whole PK to devolve into chaos. Now, he IS just the sporting director....officially. He might just be playing the part given to him or he may not be part of this whole clandestine thing. But I find it hard to believe that Stevic comes to 1860, behind the back of his "friend" Reuter, with only the sporting director job as an offer. I would bet money that the board told him he will be full director if Reuter steps down. Anyone who knows what Reuter said when he left BVB would know where he stands on the issue of being just full director (and not sporting director included).
This whole "replacement" of Reuter thing was done MONTHS ago, perhaps as early as November!!!! ANYONE who would go behind the back of someone is a slimy, measly, miserable wretch of a person who is not worthy enough to be spat upon!!!!! I am sooo fed up with the board and the club at this point BELIEVE ME I have contemplated NOT renewing my membership in protest and sending them my Urkunde. NOT because of letting Reuter go, but because of the Wildmoser-style way in which this freak'n group continues to operate.
Clearly this club's leaders are under the intense illusion that 1860 is prepared for promotion. Promotion by 2010 is the slogan. Are the kidding!!!! That's next year!!!! We have many players out of contract in summer in both the first and second teams. We have gaps in many key positions. We have an operating deficit which every years lands 3m worth of debt in December which must be paid. We can barely compete in the 2.BL CONSISTENTLY right now. How the F can we hope for promotion? As I see it, Kurz is already gone despite Stevic saying he is coach. Most normally people would expect 1860 to lose at Mainz this weekend. I'll bet Kurz is toast if he loses. IF the the board is serious about promotion by 2010 they will likely hire a "name" to take the reigns. That won't be cheap after having to pay out Reuter AND Kurz.
I cannot tell you how pissed and depressed I am right now. I have not see gross incompetence at 1860 like this until the Wildmoser house of cards fell apart and revealed the lies he was spinning. *sigh*
