My friend told me about a soccer movie that I havent been able to find. He couldn't remember the name, but described it as this. It was about a prison camp in WWII where Germans guards played a game against various captured allies. They said it starred Sylvester Stallone as a goalie. If any knows the name of it please pass it along.

I remember a for a long time I thought this movie where Stallone played soccer was just a myth too until I saw it in a videostore in late 97. I remember the movie would never be shown on TV. Only once in a blue moon would they show it on late late late night TV. I also remember that in all the videostores I checked they wouldn't have it either and if I asked the store clerk they would just give me blank stare. Only until I saw it in the run down videostore did I finally believe.

They just showed it last week, in prime time, on Spike (formerly TNN).
In most of the rest of the world, the movie was called "Escape to Victory."
I never tried to rent this flick, but I just checked and it is available at Netflix (http://www.netflix.com/MovieDisplay?movieid=1091206&trkid=73), FWtW.

I think I'm the only soccer fan in the universe that really hates this movie.
Maybe I wouldn't have if it hadn't had Stallone in it... but he acted like such an idiot. I didn't buy it at all. I guess it had a couple moments, but I don't think it's good enough to enjoy the "classic" status that most give it.
Maybe I need to see it again, but I don't think it was that long ago that I saw it.
Wasn't Ipswich's Portman Road used in the film or something? I can't remember. It had some Ipswich connection... players or grounds or something.
I'll give it this, though... it's a far better soccer movie than "Hot Shot" was.
That one was terrible... just awful. Both had Pele in 'em though.

John Wark was in the movie. He was one of the best Ipswich player at that time.

It's not a very good movie (and I'm being kind with that) but I enjoy it in a guilty pleasure kind of way.
