This is how I see the preliminary and group stages playing out (Clubs underlined are the ones I think will advance).
[1] DIM {L} (COL) vs Peñarol (URU)
[2] Sporting Cristal (PER) vs Estudiantes LP {L} (ARG)
[3] El Nacional {L} (ECU) vs Nacional (PAR)
[4] Deportivo Anzoátegui {L} (VEN) vs Deportivo Cuenca (ECU)
[5] Palmeiras {L} (BRA) vs Real Potosí (BOL)
[6] Universidad de Chile {L} (CHI) vs CF Pachuca (MEX)
The only real upset I see in the preliminary round is Nacional of Paraguay defeating El Nacional of Ecuador.
{L} = Local en el primer partido.
Grupo 1
LDU de Quito (ECU)
Colo Colo (CHI)
Sport Recife (BRA)
Palmeiras (BRA)
Probably the most even group of all, except maybe for Sport Recife, I think Colo Colo and Liga fight it out for 2nd place with the edge to the Chileans.
Grupo 2
Boca Juniors (ARG)
Guaraní (PAR)
Deportivo Táchira (VEN)
Deportivo Cuenca (ECU)
Relatively easy group for Boca to win, Guaraní joins them in the round of 16.
Grupo 3
River Plate (ARG)
Club Nacional de Football (URU)
San Martín (PER)
Nacional (PAR)
After River's shocking Libertadores campaigns in recent times I see them vindicating themselves and winning the group. Tough battle for 2nd place but the Uruguayan Nacional should take it.
Grupo 4
São Paulo (BRA)
Defensor Sporting (URU)
América de Cali (COL)
DIM (COL)
São Paulo clear favorites in this group but any of the other 3 could also advance, I think 2nd place will come be a showdown between the Colombians with América advancing.
Grupo 5
Cruzeiro (BRA)
Universitario de Sucre (BOL)
Deportivo Quito (ECU)
Estudiantes LP (ARG)
Seemingly easy group to call with Cruzeiro and Estudiantes advancing, not sure in which order though.
Grupo 6
Lanús (ARG)
Everton (CHI)
Caracas FC (VEN)
CD Guadalajara (MEX)
Chivas to win the group and Lanús in a 2nd, although I don't completely rule out Caracas and maybe Everton as well for the 2nd spot.
Grupo 7
Grêmio (BRA)
Aurora (BOL)
Boyacá Chicó (COL)
CF Pachuca (MEX)
I see Pachuca in contention to win the group alongside Grêmio, in fact I think we'll win the group although it won't be easy. Gremio will have tough away games considering how much Brasilian clubs tend to dislike matches at altitude.
I think Pachuca should be able to win the 3 matches at home, a draw in both Bolivia and Colombia and probably a loss in Brasil. A total of 11 points could be enough to win the group. After the group stage in the knockout rounds is when things get really difficult. Hopefully we make it that far.
Grupo 8
San Lorenzo (ARG)
Libertad (PAR)
Universitario (PER)
San Luis (MEX)
San Lorenzo should win this group with 2nd place up for grabs, San Luis might surprise me after all.

Pachuca should be able to handle that group pretty well I think.
Can't wait to see them in action.

I expect nothing but success. Mexican teams in this competition never fail at this stage in the competition

First we have to get past Universidad de Chile.

In fact only four Mexican clubs, since they started their participation in CL in 1998, have ever failed to advance out of the group stage, Guadalajara twice, Monterrey and Pumas. That is the least of any country in that time span.

and thats why they invite mexico into the competition. they said its not fare to have the best teams left out. and great move economically to. The competition has grown into sumthing special

Sadly this thread will end. Meza messed up. Takin' out Benítez for Chaco, when the guy was makin' the U de Chile defense look bad. Why???? Maybe take out Torres or Cardenas. I am soo pissed right now. Los Tuzos should still be in the Copa Libertadores. http://www.geocities.com/jayrob6/emoticons/furious.gif
