We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement for the transfer of Wilson Palacios from Wigan Athletic.

Personal terms have been agreed and a medical completed, we now await the Honduran international receiving his work permit before completing his registration.

The midfielder made 41 appearances for the Latics after joining in January, 2008 having started the 2007/08 campaign on loan with Birmingham City, where he featured on eight occasions.

The 24-year-old had previously played for Honduran top-flight side Olimpia where he scored 32 goals in 102 appearances.

I haven't seen enough of him to tell, but I hope he can become the midfield enforcer we have all been crying out for.

If nothing else he's going to be better than Jenas.

is that what he does? i havent seen him play either (apparently this is a grave sin). i have read that he plays on the right which is clearly not what we need. at any rate, if anyone has seen him play and can comment on where he plays / how he plays, any information would be appreciated.

I have my reservations, but I'll withold judgement until I see how he fits in. My fear is that we've once again bought a compromise Dmid, someone who flatters to deceive and who really wants to play attacking midfielder, but because they occasionally get stuck in and put forth the effort defensively is seen as a Dmid. What we need at that position is someone who is 100% committed to defending, reads the game well enough to be a real stopper, AND is willing to get stuck in and be our enforcer. I guess Palacios is a good step in that direction, but at that price tag surely there were other options.

Crossing my fingers and closing my eyes, hopefully he is the pleasant surprise we've needed all season (read: 'for decades').

Witholding judgement starting .... NOW!

Why would you say that. They will not be numbered as I see that Modric may be moved to the left of the midfield where I think he would be excellent. Jenas is not going to leave and I highly doubt if when he gets fit again he would not be starting.

I had no idea Harry's had some relation to Fat frank. We should tell harry to get him on the sqaud. :)

O'hara will be playing on the left. He is playing well and was named as 1 of the players who always play with their hearts out. That would probably seal his place on the left side.

Jenas would probably play if we decide on a 4-5-1. If not, he will be a sub. :)

i agree. modric is not going to the left. he is going to stay in the middle.

O'Hara is a kid I like, he plays with his heart. But, he isn't particularly talented, and while he does have some skill at crossing and scoring--very nice traits for a winger--he is in no way elite. One of Redknapps top priorities is replacing O'Hara for someone of more skill, so don't get too used to seeing him start. When you're rating O'Hara, realize that we got rid of Malbranque because he wasn't good enough for Levy's standards on the left ... so think about that when you contemplate O'Hara.

Modric isn't a left winger.

Wow. Honduras must be shit.

Palcios is an excellent player and will surely strengthen Spurs midfield. He attacks and defends well and rarely loses the ball. He's the kind of player you want tucked behind Modric to free him up from defensive duties when the team transitions from defense to attack.

The incident with his brother was due to Honduran media reports that published how much he was earning weekly at Birmingham (I think) and that led some low life scumbags to believe they could kidnap his brother and extort money from Palacios.

The ransom was paid and his brother has yet to be returned.

Palacios hasn't spoken to the Honduran press since the incident.

I'm sure the Hondurans around BigSoccer can provide more info.
