Soccer365 (http://www.soccer365.com/Euro_home/Spain/page_68_37779.shtml)SPURS DENY MCCARTHY INTEREST

Tottenham have denied any interest in South African striker Benni McCarthy.

Director of football David Pleat dismissed the reports as "utter nonsense".

He said: "Benni McCarthy is not coming to Tottenham.”

Spurs have been linked with a number of top marksmen, including Fernando Morientes and Rivaldo, and now speculation has linked the Vigo forward with a loan move to the club, with a view to a permanent switch.

Pleat continued: "In fact, nine out of 10 stories linking us to players are absolute rubbish. There's not a shred of truth in it.

"It's strange because these reports make out like there is great substance to them."

Hoddle insists that the Morientes deal is still alive, with Real dropping their original transfer demand from 19mil to 15mil. The only catch appears to be that both clubs can't agree on the payment structure. Apparantely we want to pay it in 3mil instalments over 5 years, but they're not so sure!

C'mon Spurs!

From The Guardian (http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,1563,779282,00.html): "Tottenham have a golden chance to sign the Lazio striker Hernan Crespo at a cut price. The Rome club are in dire financial straits and desperate to sell players before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. Glenn Hoddle is to meet the Argentinian's representatives on Monday.

"Spurs also hope to complete the signing of Real Madrid's Fernando Morientes over the weekend. A fee of about £15m is believed to have been agreed for the Spain striker, who is understood to have accepted a five-year contract worth £40,000 a week.

Folks, dare we hope?

Tribal Football (http://www.tribalfootball.com/august/englishnews240802.html)£35M Crespo wants Tottenham move

Lazio's £35 million ace Hernan Crespo wants to join Tottenham.
The Daily Express reports that the Argentine will snub interest from Inter Milan to win a move to the Premiership.

With Ronaldo's possible Real move finally ending today Morientes certainly isn't any more likely to be sold.

the ronaldo move is toast. but the spurs tight lipped the trade talk so i doubt we'll hear anything from them about morientes. i hope we get him!
