Hey,
I am looking for some new Nike Mercurial Vapors FG. I dont really mind the colour, but i dont want anything stupid because im a Central Defender, and not a ponse.
I wouldn't mind a pair of the black Vapors, with the red heel counter.
So, if anyone has any links for some decent priced Vapors, please reply.
I live in the Uk so shipping from the USA may not be worthwhile if it steepens the price.
Vapor's over here are about £90 +, which is about $190, o if anyone has any links I would be gratefull.
Cheers

total 90's would probably be better for a defender

Yea i already got the white/red and the navy/white total 90's II, aswell as some preds.
But the thing is, in Ebgland in the summer there are droughts for about 3 weeks, so the ground goes solid and i need a pair of firm ground boots, as i got the others in studs.

The Nike Vapors are great if you like BLISTERS, STUDPRESSURE, have NARROW BALLET FEET and $180 for shoes that FALL APART AFTER 10 GAMES!!!

I know a guy who's been in the soccer equip biz for a million years, He sells them, but only because, as he says, "idiots keep wanting to buy them"

As he explains it, a few years ago overall show weight became an essential issue for buyers. Nike made fairly heavy shoes. So they stripped down a shoe to nothing, no support, no frame, no nothing until they got to 6 oz, and did some marketing.

The fact is that if you play on a perfect pitch, like Crew Stadium or someplace, you may be OK. Pros can wear them for this reason, plus they get new ones every match, even every half. For the rest of us, playing on the average crummy field with the same shoes you've been wearing for a week will turn your feet into hamburger.

Mervurial Vapors are for people who are into fashion and showing off how much they can spend on shoes. Soccer players go elsewhere.

I own a pair and I certainly wouldn't recommend them for firm fields. the stud configuration feels awkward and unstable on firm surfaces like the ones you say you play on. I also play on very firm fields most of the time and I use my vapors as a soft ground cleat instead (even though they're the firm ground version). the fit is very tight so blisters can be a problem.

How does ronaldo where those things? They are terrible. I cannot put a powerful shot towards the net and i get horrible traction with them. I switched to predators (gun metals) And i turned into a totally different player. I could strike the ball so much better and i couldn't feel the difference in wieght. Maybe its srictly for a striker to recieve the ball dribble the goalie, and tap it in.

Ronaldo probably has them specialy made for him. A lot of pros have their boots specialy made.

Yeah i know that but still, How much difference can that make if they custom made? And why doesn't nike offer that to its customers. As long as they are willing to do pay what Ronaldo WOULD HAVE paid.

I've had mine for 4 seasons and mine still are together. I had blisters in the beginning but the new ones have some type of heal guard. The Talaria's on the other hand fall apart, because they are a cheaper version of the Vapors. As for the original question, don't go with Vapors because its more for a quick player. The boot is made for forwards with quick feet (the NikeSKin has a nice texture to it, I can feel the difference, the stud design gave me more traction and its a lot lighter, which is great when it rains).

A huge difference. It could be a completely different boot.

Nike wouldn't offer specially made boots because different people perfer different things and Nike, and all companies for that matter, want you to think these are the boots that the pros wear.

Everyone has different feet...I have a tremendously faster and more accurate shot in vapors than in leather boots or even my total 90's. My first touch is better too...but make sure you are warmed up properly with the ball, b/c the shoe is true to the touch.

I didn't like when I had predators now that I have experienced Total 90's(my favorite) and Vapors....they feel like bricks on my feet if I put them on......

yea, i've also found that my touch was a lot better with the Vapors. The ball sticks like glue when I'm dribbling through traffic.

I've never heard of this problem before, only the opposite reaction. You sure you got Vapors?

I do notice that it feels like I can put more power into my shots with the Vapors than with my Predators, like it's easier to find my "sweet spot" for hitting the ball with the Vapors. Or maybe it's a mental thing because the shoe is considerably thinner than the rest so the shot is the same but you get more feedback with the Vapors than with other shoes.

Yes I am quite sure seeing as how i bought them from eurosport and it said VAPORS and it says r9 on the tongue. Oh well they were a lil big on me i coulda gone a size smaller but i ordered from eurosport and i was so psyched when i got them i didn't care. Guess thats the price you pay when you don't try em on first.

But anyways I can't even feel the difference between the two.

I faced the problem when I first got them; they strike the ball a bit differently than the typical boot. I hated them at first... couldn't take free kicks worth *#*#*#*#*#. But, since my game cleats got beaten to the point of bleeding feet after each practice, I basicaly made myself play in them. After getting used to the different shape, I'm never wearing a different type. I bought a pair of adida's predators after having already played in vapors for a while, and they did, indeed, "feel like bricks" on my legs. Incredible waste of money (the predators) for me. They're brilliant once you adjust to them, to sum it all up.

Im one of those modern defenders, that doesnt go to ground, and cant get beat while standing. I'll make a hard tackle if i have to, like when the forward is getting all big headed and stuff. So, what is the difference? I do as much running as a forward does, as im chasing one all the time, so surely more pace due to the lighter boot would be better?!

i'm just saying who the boot is intended for. If you think Vapors can help your game, then go for it. I was just merely explaining the type of player its for.
