Volz is officially with Fulham:

Wonder if we'll regret that (or if there's something we don't know).

GJ40 I'm not really worried about it. Arsene knows. My own link here. (http://www.arsenal.com/sportsappcontroller.jsp?command=setSelectedId&nextPage=displayheadline&type=com.sportapps.news.NewsItem&id=4302686)

I hope Wenger is increasing the amount in the kitty for a good striker signing but....probably not. The kid sure seems talented but I'm sure Wenger knows what he's doing.

maybe we should have waited for fulham to get money for saha, which seems likely in my opinion as saha doesn't want to be in any way connected with fulham anymore. then demanded more for volz. would have been nice, but oh well. like everyone says, Arsene knows

What cover do you have for that right-back position? I know you are combining Toure/Lauren there right now but is there anyone else available?

If not, IMHO, I think this may be a mistake - all you need is for Lauren to get injured and then Toure is locked into the RB position with limited cover in the centre....

There's another promising youngster who's played a couple of League Cup games, Justin Hoyte. He's injured at the moment, but having seen him play, he looks like one for the future. I suppose the decision was how many youngsters can you have for the position and which one does the manager think has the best chance of making it long term. It seems that Wenger has plumped for Hoyte.

I think you called it right there. Also, some of Wenger's comments before the permanent switch was settled alluded that the decision to stay or go was ultimately in the hands of Voltz. It may have been a mistake to let him go, but if the kid doesn't want to wait for his shot at a run in the first team then by all means show him the door. I think (hope) Lauren's days are numbered and Hoyte seems like a great prospect.

I'm really excited about the youngsters in the Arsenal system. Rick talked about the continued dominance of Man U and it's a result of Fergie's shrewd managing and mix of youth and making some big dollar purchases like V.Nisterlrooy and Ferdinand. Giggs, Becks, Nevilles, Scholes - they all came up together and won together.

The youth in Arsenal today have been brought in by Wenger so hopefully the decade of domination could be passed to Arsenal's young guns. Of course, Man U's got some excellent youth as well and money to burn but man oh man, I want to see what these guys can do - Aliadiere, Clichy, Cesc, Bentley, Hoyte, Stack, Taylor . . . it's too bad that we were unable to watch a reserve game during the Roadtrip . . .

For an answer to that, see Matthew Upson. :)

Fair point on that Clichy kid - what I saw of him recently when he played (due to Coles suspension) was a bit of an eye-opener. Which one gets to play though?????

Let's not forget Senderos, who sooner or later will be on the pitch and be able to do his stuff. Arsenal is getting crowded at the back. This is from a club that is supposed to be all about the attack. So I think for all parties involved, letting Volz go was the best decision. I'm not worried.

The only concern is cover at right-back while we wait for Hoyte to recover from injury. Lauren/Toure is a good pair and from what I understand Senderos is right-footed.

Senderos is injured again though. He's had an operation and is unlikely to play much again this season. To have Lauren and Toure covering the position for now is just fine. And Parlour has done a job there in the past too.
