Fergie In Fight For Palacios
Manchester United were last night planning a £14million bid for Wigan star Wilson Palacios. The Latics rejected a £10m bid from Tottenham for the Honduras midfield powerhouse yesterday. SunSport understands that Wigan told Spurs they will not do business for less than £14m. Wigan chairman Dave Whelan insisted: “It’s not enough money. They can come back or forget it.” Latics boss Steve Bruce confirmed he plans to hold talks with Palacios, 24, over his future today. He said: “We’ll see what happens when the money men start talking. But it’s difficult, it’s not about me or the chairman, it’s about the player. How can you deny them a life-changing opportunity? You can bet it will be a huge contract. He will be as good a midfielder as there is in a couple of years.” United manager Alex Ferguson is a huge fan of Palacios and was planning a summer swoop. But the Spurs offer has forced United’s hand as Whelan will sell to the Londoners for the right price.

United's narrow win over Wigan naturally attracts plenty of coverage in the tabloids, with match-winner Wayne Rooney just one of a host of players picking up injuries. “All over the pitch we were limping but it’s a great result for us," Sir Alex told the media.
The Daily Mirror lauds United's backline, who posted a ninth straight Premier League clean sheet against the Latics. "Manchester United's two box-office stars combined for the only goal - but it was Sir Alex Ferguson's makeshift defence which intensified the pressure on leaders Liverpool," writes David McDonnell.

Yeah, Apparently Wilson will join Tottenham for a $20 million dollars fee.

I would have liked him to stay at Wigan for this whole season.

This sucks, i Wigan is 6th in Premier League right now. While Tottenham is fighting relegation, So he's back to where he was last year. The only difference is his price tag.

Tottenham has money right now (Berbatov sale $31 mill/Keane sale 22 mill) and has a tendency of overpaying to get their player. Palacios is worth between 5-10 mill at best. Nothing more than that. Man U/Spurs would be fools to spend more than 10 mill for this player.

yup thats y they have him.

And thats why Wigan have Palacios. I doubt Man U will break the bank to sign Palacios. Why would they when there better players at that position who are available? Tottenham might do it tho since they like to overpay.;)

You need to get your facts right son. Jones made 2 appearances for Southampton in 04/05 season in the premiership. Then spent 2 seasons with Southampton in Championship and was bought by Sunderland in Aug 07. He played in Germany in 06 while Palacios was busy watching the warriors at the WC.;)

This is only his 3rd season in the premiership and he just came back from injury being out for 6 months. Benitez tried to buy him in March '08 for 12 mill and Roy Keane said NO. Now Tottenham tried to buy him last week for 15 million and that bid was rejected. Clearly those clubs see something in him to attract such interest. Bottomline he's worth alot more than Palacios. Like I said Man U wont overpay when theyre better players available but Spurs probably will. They bought Bent for 17 mill and that is more than enough proof..:p
