Halftime....

Paraguay 1 x 0 Brazil

Mostly Paraguay all half. Cuevas had a few great shots on goal and eventually scored a nice one.

One one clear shot for Brazil on a Kleberson shot from outside the box.

Scolari said he would change about 8 or 9 at halftime as he wants everyone to play. Ronaldo came out in the 30th minute. Its his first game in 52 days since the final.

What was up with Kaka? Is it me or did he miss quit a few chances. I was kind of surprised the way he played. I thought he should have done better with his chances.

I am in the dark - Brazil amistosos are rarely shown in England on TV!

Didn't get to see the game. :-(

But sounds like all of the players were way out of shape and not playing too seriously. A shame that there wasn't at least some prettier soccer, even in a losing effort.

Wish I could have seen it but even from the premise it wasn't an ultra serious match. A friend of mine said, and I quote, "Ronaldo looked like a perfect candidate to be on an anti-tobacco ad..."

The players were out of shape and perhaps had one caipirinha too many in the victory celebrations. ALl that is fine and good but - that doesnt' look too good considering that many of them play on top clubs around the world.. Oh well.

FORTALEZA, Brazil, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari dismissed Wednesday's shock defeat against Paraguay, his last game in charge, and said his team would always be remembered for winning the 2002 World Cup.

'I started losing and finished losing but these defeats will be forgotten thanks to the Penta (fifth world title)' said the man known as Big Phil, whose reign began with a 1-0 loss to Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier.

'The game was a celebration. Seven or eight of the team who started are still in pre-season training, so a 1-0 defeat was a good result. It was worthwhile for meeting the players and the national team staff again.'

The game was a mix of guys in great shape (Ronaldinho Gaucho) and other in bad shape (Ronaldo) and other somewhere in between. Any game is a serious game in Brazil. Paraguay was playing serious. The game became dramatic in the 2nd half when Brazil pressed to tie but couldn't.
It was interesting seeing all those faces again , but it shows what 52 days without hard practice can do to some players.

It looks like another France-Senegal match were world champs can get beaten from a small team. The only differnece is Paraguay is the third/ or fourth best team in South America and the top twenty fifa nations. The game is not a serious match isn't it?

Paraguay clearly showed that they are the second best South American behind Brazil, they played even without the stars like Santa Cruz,Gamarra,Arce etc.

This game was meant too celebrate Brazil's 5 World Cup title, and also Scolari goodbye game.

What happened Brazil?

:D

"We've been invited to the party and we intend to eat most of the cake," Paraguay's caretaker coach Anibal Ruiz told reporters on Monday.

" BURP! " Anibal Ruiz told reporters after the game.

Even millionaires make mistakes I suppose.

sometimes being "satisfied" can make you lazy.

still with 9 subs and having virtually most of
the same world cup team.. I find it very odd.

perhaps brazil was lucky it didn't come across
paraguay in the wc 2002 ;)

but in this case I guess the paraguayans just wanted the win more than brazil..

Yeah, they've been a thorn in our sides lately.

Sounded like a few of the players needed to
back away from the dinner table and get back
to work.
