3-1 despite a Jamie Meadors by my new IM trainee, and 2 injuries. Both to regular starters. Geez. One was to another IM but he's just bruised.
My opponent played a 3-6-1 in an attempt to counter my midfield. Almost pulled it off too, but my experienced players help pull me through.

Excellent. Just the kind of thing we want to add.
Dynamo lose 4-3, coming back to tie it up at 3 all and then giving up the immediate lead goal. :( Dynamo once again dominated possession.

Well wasn't sure I was going to get this one but I'm through to the next round of the Open Cup with a 0-3 Victory...

We had been warned about all the ape shit and my coach wants to know when your crappy stadium is gonna get indoor toilets?
Yeah, your team kicked my teams ass, but man, blow jobs from my wife?

Won my cup game 2-0 by making my MF stonger by playing one of my wings toward middle, playing my other wing and WB defensive (on the side where my opponent always played his strong wing and WB), and by playing one of my normal WBs as an offensive CD (I figured I could get away with this since my opponent's attack was utter crap).
And as I'm patting myself on the back for winning the game through my first use of superior tactics, I notice that the WB whom I had wanted to start on the same side as my WTM wasn't there, replaced by a very crappy backup. Because I had just sold my good WB before the game and had forgotten to fix my lineup. Oops. Oh well--my tactics still worked, I got my first ever FK and corner kick goals, and I get a home game next round in the cup.
My opponent next game is a D.IV team that routinely gets solid or brilliant MFs with his reserves. Crap. I am so going to get deuteriumoxidized in my next cup game. And my league game is against the recently demoted team. Deuteriumoxidized again. So much for team confidence. But at least they are both home games, so I can get some cash, and maybe I can fix my transfer-related TS problems.

and, not to give away my tactics for the next few gamesx or anything, but I remember seeing somewhere an algorithim to calculate your team's counterattacking skill. Anyone else know where that is?

Go ahead and hire a team psychologist. I don't know if more than 1 would do any good but hire at least 1. I plan on keeping the one psychologist on staff for the whole season.
I too just hit POE with this USCup PIC.
I also just hired 10 docs. Was hoping to avoid it but tonight I now have 4 injured players. Would like to have all my best players available for my game against last season's #3 team in a couple of weeks. They are much improved this season due to some off season acquisitions. Last season I took both games against him in weeks 7 & 8. I expect to lose one against him this season.

lost 1-nil, but made a decent size profit from it. TS and confiedience is still decent.

I'll post the seeds and tentative schedule tomorrow evening--if more than one team in your pool is out of the cup, I'd have no problem with you starting early (although that would give a tactical advantage to those others starting later, a la Germany vs. Austria in the 86(?) world cup).

Well, I got lucky, I pulled out a close 7-0 win against a team playing his first game in hattrick.:) My striker picked up his second hattrick in as many games. Looking on to the next round, I'm at home this time, I play another D-V team, and after looking at his two cup games, I think I have a good shot at beating him. Right now I believe he is training PM, because that's where his youngest players are. I think my attack will be able to hopefully get one or two goals out of it. His attack isn't as good, so I'm hoping to pull a win and make it to uncharted territory for me, the fourth round.

It was '82 actually. :)
I'm out, so I'd be willing to start.

let me ask a lineup question. I'm playing 4-4-2 in my league match this sun, but I want to help the inner midfield as much as possible.
is it better to take a CD and make him the third IM, then take one of the wingers and move them into CD? (I would then set my wingback on the side withouta winger to offensive).
OR just play reg back four and then move one the wingers towards middle??

You'd increase your midfield playmaking abilities the most by creating a third IM. A winger toward the middle helps, but not as much as a third IM.
