Does anyone else have an offensive minded coach? I do, and its proved disastrous with a 3-4-3. Early in the season my forwards were in bad form and I couldn't score, so I changed coaches, my strikers got into good form, my defense's form turned to crap, and I'm bleeding an unbelievable amount of goals. Now I've somehow got to make this system when I get relegated to div IV next season. Talent wise, there's no excuse for me being in last place.

Thats what I have. My old coach was inad, defensive minded. Then I had enough money from a transfer and I promoted my oldest player who was passable experience to a passable coach is is neither fond of attacking and defending. My players listen to him now. Maybe it is because he joins them for spirints. :)

I've been doing a 3-4-3 for a while, simply as an act of rebellion. You need some kick-ass inner mids in order to counteract the advantage you're usually going to hand off in the middle. The good news is, if you are competitive in the midfield, you're overwhelmingly superior on offense, and you win. Of course, when the other team is simply standing on the ball, you lose. Train stamina in the offseason so at least you don't have that to worry about.

A cheaper way to raise defense is by buying an expensive keeper. You will eventually want useful defenders as well, but if you're in serious pain, and can only buy one thing, buy a keeper. Or an inner mid.

I assume you're training forwards. The good news is, D4 is a good time to start all over with a new plan, because you can be pretty sure as a D3 team you'll be a lot better than your opponents. So there's a lot bigger margin for error. It's not great news, but it's something. Relegation is survivable. It's happened to me three times already.

But it's probably not your coach, unless you have a crappy coach.

Oh well, 10 out of 32 and a 3-2, with 5 weeks of friendlies taken care of, isn't terrible, congrats to Gunner on finishing 8 in the tournament.

I still have braging rights though. ;)

How do you figure I got 8? I can't find the final results or rankings.

champmanager, I have an offensive coach, and I even play a 3-4-3 in half my games. But then, I'm a keeper trainer and the players I was initially dealt were stronger at defense, so I figured an offensive coach was helping to augment my weakness.

I haven't been in conferences for a couple of days and I'm at work. Thought it would have been posted on the 'website'.

Yeah, that would have made sense. I just saw it when I was browsing the conference and didn't think too much of it.

On the subject of cups, BBFC got bounced out of DarqCup I in the second round by a 4 - 0 score, at home against Drunk&Disorderly. It would have been worse, I think, but they elected to press me (didn't make a whole lot of sense, I didn't think, considering they were the better squad).

Most of the time it's easier to post things on a message board than on a website...most people don't have an ftp program at work so it's easier just to log on to HT and update there. When I update my tournament now its to .txt file so I don't have to mess with the html tags.

Hattrick is down. I'm not begrudging the downtime, I would still be jonesing for something to happen. I want my youth pull, my league game, training for my new transfers. Oh, the life of a hattrick manager for me.

I love this game.

I have found a 17 and 18 year old on the transfer lists. Gonna train 'em up and let them help me win in div VI after I get relegated.

Chris, your shareholders are worried at the rate you are spending money! ;)

I notified my youth squad manager I wanted to promote someone so he sent me a young lad who was 17. Problem was, the supporters club and other youth players heard about him, formed a lynch mob and then they took out back and shot him. He was prounced dead when the cops arrived.

As for the players and the supporters who did this, they all get free beer and krispy kreme donuts. :D

My youth pull met Tony Soprano outside the back door of the Bada Bing.

He hasn't been since.

Rumours of his head being seen peeking out of the snow in the stadium parking lot are untrue.

Mine was last seen asking the immortal words: "would you like fries with that?" :D

And to think I paid 12 grand for a burger flipper :(

I'm all but mathmatically eliminated from 6th place now, so I transfer listed my world class striker with passable passing. He gets 6*'s on solid form (which he's been on for three weeks now, after dipping down to wretched last season and spending most of the season with the reserves). If you've got at least $6 million burning a hole in your pocket, he's a steal.

My game is a must win, a win today keeps me up in fourth and puts me three points clear of 5th, and I am already clear of 6th. I also still have a shot at 3rd if I win my final three and the third place team who was recently replaced, only wins one of their three, I take third. Almost at half and I am winning 3-0 :). Go Rangers.

Drew 2-2. Had the lead, but lost it twice. My young Swede picked up an assist and my new Dutch forward got both goals. Funny thing is he was noted as having a bad day. Defense was solid, formable, and outstanding.

Pulled off a 3-1 away to 5th place (I am in third)

Got my solid winger injured though, he was playing his 101st match, so hopefully he won't be out for long.

My sub came off the bench and pulled more stars. My other reserve filling in for my suspended winger did well too. These youngsters are giving me hope for next season.

I am a little pissed off that the #1 team in my series played his reserves against the #4 team and lost his unbeaten record. Means I didn't pull away from #4 as I expected.

I play #1 away next week and I bet I see his first choice team as #2 is now only three points behind him and they play in the final week of the season. :(
