I managed to spend 600,000 pounds for a central midfielder to play against the league leaders while my regulars were out to suspension and injury. But I didn't play MOTS and changed from 3-5-2 to 3-4-3 while neglecting to take my wingers off offensive and I lost 9-0. My team confidence went from wonderful to disastrous. By far the most ridiculous result ever. I believe my team had more stars then the other team. I really messed up.

Does anyone else here play ManagerZone? It seems to me that it is a better designed game and the interface is MUCH easier to use than Hattrick. Unfortunately, there are no national cups or national teams (yet).

Mundial,
I have 10 - 2 GK and 8 basic assistants.
Form is fickle - my star striker has been decreasing since the beginning of the year.

Is it an advantage to play a friendly EVERY week? Or does it actually hurt you to play a friendly every week?

You want to play a friendly every week, that way you can train young players that may not be able to start with the first team... Also I believe it helps form, supposedly any player that doesnt play in a week will have his form drop...

What do you guys prefer to use in the 3-5-2? I've noticed the trend has always apeared to be two defensive wing backs, one central defender, and 2 wingers and 1 IM offenseive, 2 IM normal...
Anyone like to use one of their wingers towards the middle?... It seems to help alot when you're outgunned....

Is there any reason why a player's skill level would not go up.
I am using HAM to track my training, I have one defender who has played every game for the last 12 weeks and he has not moved at all, stuck at solid. What's the deal? Other players have moved up but not him.

There's something wierd about putting a midfielder in the wingback spot and ordering him extra innermid, unless you have two central defenders with playmaking & passing skils mainly, all else is cool, too. That would be ideal, but since I don't have anybody like that, I don't. I also put my mid on the central def spot and set him EIM. AND I set my other two mids offensive, I don't have midfielders with defensive skills except for one who is inadequate on defense.
One thing I noticed while I played around with positioning is my EIM is lined up as the dead center midfielder (you can tell by the naming at the beginning of the match report) if I place him in the right central defensive spot and set in EIM.
As far as wingers go, I would personally have true wingers and play them as such. But in the past and out of necessity, I have had to place my inner mid(with some winger skill) on the wing, setting him towards middle. I see it brings up the midfield rating and strengthens your central attack, especially in a 352, but of course your wing attack will be stank.
I'll keep in mind what you said about using towards middle when you're outgunned, I recently liquidated my midfielders who were all 29 and 30, and opted to go with youth(the whole nationalistic thing, you know?) So, I'm starting all over and paying dearly in the results and standings. But it's worth it in the long run(I have to keep reminding myself). I just received the worst ass-whooping of my 15-month Hattrick career, 6-0 this past Sunday. Make good use of your time on Hattrick and check me, I'm in Mexico. :) You or anybody let me know what you think of me and my fly, almost all Mexican, team. Maybe I could do something better tactically! For realz!!

How old is he? If he's younger than 23, then it's abnormal. Otherwise it should be ok.
But wait - how many assistants do you have? What are you training? Is he playing in the right position every week? Do you use a wacky formation? Many things at play here...

He is 24, plays central defense in a 5-3-2 .. and after 9 weeks there he just got himself injured for three weeks this week, right after I posted here.
When he comes back from injury does he go back to zero weeks or carries on with his 10th week of denfensive training.

I know you weren't asking me but I'll answer it anyway..
He retains all of his training, so don't sweat it!! He'll just have to miss out on training for some time. Now would be a good time to hire some more doctors to help cut down injury time, if you're not maxed out on ten already. He'll be playable and receive training when he bruised but training and showing a bandaid.

Thanks for the tip on the doctors, I will get some more and I hope he recovers quickly.

Since I've been in a far weaker division, I've been using 3-4-3 and training forwards. I have noticed that if you use a winger towards the middle, it helps alleviate the midfield rating. And Hattrick=Midfield, although not as much as it used to.

It took awhile for me. I just got my first decent player. An 18 year old rated passable for scoring. Placed him into a friendly right away and he scored for me. I'm going to try to train him in friendlies for 2 seasons before giving him some time in the first team. Baring injury of course.

Hmmm. No editor for the posts huh? :) I probably did use it wrong, but I did mean alleviate. I always thought that Hattrick (a) put way too much emphasis on midfield, and (b) trended the average rating way, way down. Perfectly acceptable players can get you a big fat wretched in midfield, you get 20% of the possession, and you get the thrill of watching the other team pull back to defend their 5-0 lead before halftime.
"Towards middle" and stuff like that helps raise the rating, even though exposing wings in real life is begging for trouble.
Re: youth squad - give it time, guys, give it time. It's partially luck, but once the youth squad starts clicking, you'll be staffing your team and selling players as well. It pays for itself after a while. I haven't flat out fired a guy this season.

I'm in no rush. Got probably another 3-4 years before I need some replacements. 3 of my 4 forwards are 23 and under, the other is 26. One winger is 29, the others are 20, 22, and 21. My wing backs are all under 27 and my central defence partners are 22 and 23. My keepers are both under 23 too. My only worry is in midfield where both of them are nearing 30. 29 this season. I do have a capable 24 year old replacement and an 18 year old who I am beginning to groom for the midfield roll in 2-3 seasons. But If I can pull one or two decent players this season to start grooming them and then next season or the year after pull up some nice prospects that I can either plug in right away or sell, I'll be back up in no time. I'm having an easy go of it in division 4 - at least I am after I decided to pay attention to my team again. After casting it aside for a while I got myself relegated and off to a poor start. Now that I'm watching them again I'm off to a decent start. 2nd place in my division with an outside shot at 1st and a playoff game to return to divison 3. If I don't, I won't be worried. I get decent crowds at the stadium and have almost a 1.5 million dollar balance. If I can pull up a few players that can be sold for a nice price, I may go out and transfer in some world-class type players. Just a though. Though I may stay with the youth movement I kicked off when I started playing the game.

Question about coaches, I just fired mine and got this one (after a few tries)
36 years, disastrous form, healthy
A passable coach who goes all out
A sympathetic guy who is temperamental and dishonest.
Has weak experience and solid leadership abilities.
I am encouraged by the "passable coach" and "solid leadership" should I be worried about his form, dishonesty, and weak experience?
