This is neat... and complicated, but I think I am getting a grasp on it...

Will my players get better through training or will I pretty much have to bring in all new players over time?

It's kind of hard to keep track of everything.

Looking back through this thread I see repeated mentions of achronyms like MOTS and PiCs.. can anybody help me out here?

Thanks!

Looks like the coaching change paid off - temporarily, at least. I conceded a s---t load of goals, but scored more, and I'm through to round 7. The coach's attitude makes a DRASTIC change in your ratings.
But I'm afraid my league opponents are going to make mincemeat of my defense, now that their manager has abandoned them.

I'm not sure that everyone would agree, but if you wanted a quick tutorial, the best way might be to read through this whole thread from the beginning. Every question that you can think of has been asked, and answered, here I suspect.
See you next week...

i just spent 180,000 on expanding my arena... causing me to go into 100,000 deficit by next week. Anybody have an idea about how much the interest expense will be in upcoming weeks?

It makes the most sense economically to specialize on one kind of training for at least two seasons (because that's how long it takes a trainee to get up to where they're worth some real $$$), so your trainees will get better, but that's just one position. At the same time, you'll want to devote some of your income to buying better players at non-training positions.

It's kind of hard to keep track of everything.I think it's difficult to go without one of the manager programs, if nothing else then for tracking your team's progress in training and form. Good choices include Absolut Manager (free), HAM (pay), and Hattrick Buddy (free).

Looking back through this thread I see repeated mentions of achronyms like MOTS and PiCs.. can anybody help me out here?PIC = Play It Cool
MOTS = Match Of The Season

The two options (other than normal) for team attitude in a game. PIC is essential for managing team spirit. MOTS is an important tool for gaining an extra edge in a critical game. Learning when to use them is one of the keys to success in the game.

A little free advice for a player starting out: Your priorities with your seed money should be the following:
New coach (passable/poor for about $80k is a good choice) - trainees - stadium expansion to 12000 to 15000 - buy players to fill other needs. In that order.

It seems like a lot of money, but you can chew through a lot of it in a hurry on the coach and stadium expansion, and when you're just starting out it's easier to make mistakes in the transfer market.

Just bumped my stadium to just over 50,000 and sold my youth pull for $125,000

I have $800,000 in the bank and pan to make my first million dollar purchase in the off season.

You can't afford to now. But it should be a high priority. Look at your squad and see if you have anyone with at least excellent experience. The first job is to get a passable or solid coach. If you've got the choice, someone with passable or better leadership would be nice. Don't spend much on trainees until you've got a new coach, since they won't progress very fast.
I haven't looked at "external recruiting", but to promote my player of formidable experience into a solid coach whose fond of attacking cost me about $600,000.
Like I said, you probably can't afford it right now.

like was said, probably don't do it now, wait until you have some money. With a stadium around 12,000 you can make enough money in two weeks to get at least an inad coach.

It should be within your price range (if not now, then in a few weeks), and the coaching ability is much more critical to long-term success than the leadership (although you will eventually want a coach with good leadership as well).

Man, Hattrick is going down as often as a prima donna rag doll forward in search of a PK...

Don't worry, the Hattrick developers are always adding new or tweaking the old so that you'll never completely grasp it, or at least not for long. ;o)

Will my players get better through training or will I pretty much have to bring in all new players over time?

Both, you need to bring in better trainees for your training regiment, ie. young forwards with decent skill for a scoring training regimen. You fill ou tthe rest of your squad via youth pulls/transfer market.

It's kind of hard to keep track of everything.

People have developed spreadsheets and Hattrick tools mentioned above. I paid the $20 for Hattrick Manager (HAM) after one of the freebies kept crashing on my system. At least print out/save your team's performances and consistently scout/record your series opponents to pick up on their tendencies/weaknesses.

Looking back through this thread I see repeated mentions of achronyms like MOTS and PiCs.. can anybody help me out here?

One that wasn't mentioned, WTF - What the F***!?
It's often utterred by owner/GMs who think they should have won the game but the scoreboard shows otherwise. ;o)

This looks like it could be a bad breakdown. If yesterday's cup results get nullifed, I will bawl like a baby.

Is it still down? bummer. I wonder if they've expanded too quick for their resources. Or maybe they are being hammered hard by 3rd party software during this week's cup/friendly schedule.

Yes, they just posted this:

I was looking forward to some popcorn, a beer, and my friendly tonite...I guess it'll get pushed back to Thursday some time when I can't see it live.

At least I have my ESMS leagues Cup game tonite...that should make for some good reading.

New update reads like this:

>>>>At around 11:15 today, we had another hardware crash, identical to the one yesterday.

UPDATE 1900: Since the server went down just before lunch, we have been working on two parallell tracks: First of all, to get the existing server configuration back online and working. Secondly, to take our new database server into commission a week earlier than planned so that it can replace the server that have been troubling us for the past few weeks. Unfortunately, neither of these alternative systems are ready to handle a full-scale opening of the site at this point.

Rather, Hattrick is now running on a reserve system. The database is more or less intact (we have lost some time between 11.00 and 11.15 today) and the program is running as it should. While it would be possible to open the site now, the reserve system couldnīt possible handle the number of users we can expect if we open tonight. If we did, we would risk new problems. This means that all games today are being played as they would have, while the transfer market is on hold. We aim to have the site open again tomorrow Thursday, at noon HT-time.

Also, we would like to say that we are as frustrated about these server closings as you are. The recent problems are all - ironically - related to major investments on our part to make the site faster and more stable. That may not be too comforting right now, but it should still be said that we will overcome these problems in time. <<<<

What time ET is Noon-HT on Thursday?
