My match ended up 5-0 against a team that dominated me last year.
I did MOTS which will probably see me get knocked out of the cup on Wednesday as I will have to PiC then :(
Very pleased with the 5-0 win, I didn't expect that at all.
AOW certainly suited my team and not his, so that was very beneficial.
6 points in the bag already. I am in 2nd, there is no way I am staying there, but well away from 7th and 8th places so I can relax some.
In Major League, KC came from 2 down to win 3-2 away. I guess that's why they are the three time champs!

Lost 1-nil in a day of showers to one of the newly promoted teams. I know it is early, but I'm thinking I might be headed towards VI next season. :(

won 4-1 with my back up goalie playing, was playing a brand new team though. I did lose my d-mid though, to a knee injury, out 3 weeks. Hopefully my doctors will heal him up, same with my starting goalie who is hurt.

won 2-0, but lost my best inner midfielder and best forward (1 week injury / red card). winning my cup match is going to be tough, though i do have the home field advantage and PoE team spirit.
looks like it'll be time for good ole counter-attacking and possibly normal-ing the match.

Considering his lack of possession, I'd have to think so, but pressing doesn't come out and say (often) that a defensive blunder led to a goal. That's not how pressing works, maybe you're thinking about counterattack (which does say, explicitly, that the goal came off a counter)? All pressing does is destroy opportunities, so it's good for trying to keep a game close where you're disadvantaged relative to your opponent.

I'd be saying the same thing, but I managed to knock off last season's champion. He had three 1st-teamers injured or suspended, and I absolutely needed a point. At the last I decided to go with 4-3-3 counter. My extra-terrestrial central defence stopped two of his chances, and created one counter, and I eked out a 3-2 victory. This was undoubtably my most important win in the 6+ seasons I've been playing this game. i've jumped up to fifth for the moment, but its going to be a long season. Absolutely no easy matches. Only three teams can have any title aspirations, and the other five all know they could finish in eighth if things don't go their way.
Its absolutely gut wrenching.

I know that it destroys an opportunity each half - no telling whose opportunity.
It just seemed like they started off 'fresh' and got a quick lead. Then they got tired. By the end of the half, I was clearly winning possession and they had no more real chances. It would seem to fit the pattern of what you'd expect from a pressing team with poor stamina. Great out of the gates, but fading quickly.

I'm not it sure it works like that. The only time I tried it, there were two or three instances where it said "Their passable ability at pressing made the game sloppy at times," or something like that. You can't tell whose chance was snuffed out by pressing, but you know it happened. In your match, I didn't see any references. My guess is their pressing ability was so bad that it didn't do anything besides tire them out. I don't know how they scored on you, but you need to improve your defense.

I'll definitely agree with you on upgrading my defense. But his attack wasn't that great and I owned the possession battle. He just got and was able to capitalize on chance 2-4 in the game to quickly take the lead. The roll of the die just went against me early in this game.
As I understand it, the 'Their passable ability at pressing made the game sloppy at times' match quotes just report how good they are at pressing. I've seen it in both halves of some games. Maybe that statement is meant to take the place of whatever opportunity that was taken away by pressing.
Also, remember that I PICd this match. I was not surprised by this game's result, nor would I have been surprised to have lost the game.

"Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of TeamX, and they seem passable at it. It was obvious that TeamY were using pressing as their primary tactic. TeamY's inadequate ability to press their opponents all over the field paid off frequently. At this time in the match, TeamY were using their inadequate skills at the press to successfully put pressure on their opponents."
This is the beginning of a match report from a freiendly last season. A little repetitive, but hopefully illuminative. That was the first 30 minutes or so, and pressing never came up the rest of the match. Its also possible they've tweaked the engine in the offseason (or at least the reporting).
But I'm pretty sure the rules say (I know they once said) that you'd be notified when the pressing tactic made a difference one way or another. I assume the first message was just to illustrate that I was pressing and was my ability, and that the next two references explained that the pressing had actually had an impact.
Also notice the pressing ability dropped from passable to inadequate. Haven't tried it in a real match, though I'm bound to get desperate and do so in the next couple of weeks.

Me too. I couldn't believe the 5-nil win I got that I detailed earlier in this thread.
How did it work for you?
Anyone had success with attacking in the middle? I am about to try that in the cup tomorrow.

I played AIM in my last League and Cup matches.
In the Cup match I got 9 scoring chances, compared to the 6 I got in the previous Cup match. I think my central attack rating got a boost, but i lost several rating points on the wing defense.
In the League match I got 4 scoring chances (converting 2), compared to the 4 I got the week before (converting 1). However, I was torched from the get-go due to the weakened defense, and lost 4-2.
For now I'm not planning to play AIM again anytime soon. None of the tactics I've tried help my team out much.

I've used AIM, but I don't see much of a difference between that and my normal ratings.

Son of a ... I just played a friendly in the Netherlands, and I just lost my back up keeper to injury in the game. This after losing my starter in my cup game last week. Now I need to hire some more doctors so one of them will be healthy for the game on Sunday. They are both listed at one week out, how many doctors you think I need to get at least one healthy by game day?

Note that if either doesn't show as red in the dropdown for orders for Sunday, they'll be up to bruised/playing by then (based on my own past experience).
