Do we get sponsor money in the offseason? Should I go with a skeleton staff? Basically, how does the offseason work economically? I'm not playing in a qualifier, so I've got no stadium revenue.

I just picked up my coaching prospect off the market. Been looking for a decent candidate for cheap $ all season long. He'll double as my defensive backup. I've got other options but needed a last resort before playing someone outta position. Now I don't have to worry bout that anymore. Now I just have to wait a full season.... need to save up the $ for his conversion anyway.

Click on files, then season.

I'm sure the sponser money will come through, but if you're in debt, this might be a good time to sell.
Next sunday you'll get your bonus money based on your league finish (the above link will detail it for you, and even convert the currency if necessary).
The sunday after that things get reset (sponsers, supporters, team spirit and confidence).
The day after that salaries get reevaluated and the players age a year (I'm really dreading that day, it'll mean motorized wheelchairs for half the squad).

Yeah, I sold off some players for some money, and in the hopes of replacing them with cheaper backups. That I did. Now, I just gotta sit tight until the next set o fixtures....

I forgot to mention that for two weeks (but not this week), you'll only have one match a week, so its the time to train stamina or set pieces, or both.

Offseason revenues:
Sponsor income - this will drop significantly when the sponsor mood is reset. Right after that occurrence is a great time to hire as many spokesmen as you feel you can afford.
Supporter renewal - something like $30/supporter, it's probably not enough to cover your expenses but it's better than nothing.
Prize money - If you finish in the top four, you'll get prize money in lieu of a qualification match. Unfortunately, it doesn't come close to making up the spectator revenue or the training value of the match. If you don't mind taking a big cost hit this week, if you fire staff before this week's economic update you'll save on a week of pay. However, with the possible exception of the spokesmen, you'll still have use for your staff, so it probably doesn't really make sense unless you're in a serious hole debt-wise.

Thanks for the info.

I may be jumping the gun here, and I'm sorry about that, but my next game (after this week's friendly) is the cup game.

What are your strategies with how you play the cup? Is it an afterthought? Do you ignore the league games? Do you play starters in both games? Mix your lineups up to spread yor talent around? and why?

Well I'll look to see who I m playing and go from there. However I learned a lesson last time and this time I'm going to make sure I don't lose in the 1st round.

I figure the Cup is where I can get some cash and not have to pay for traveling. Plus it helps add to your training.

I am gonna go all out to see if I can get a home match in the cup.

I have never had a cup match at home and hopefully my scrubs can get me that far this time.

My strategy has been to play my reserves and get who I need training, playing time. The cup is secondary. But I might have to throw a starter in at a key position depending on the opposition.

My strategy is, I have no real shot at winning my series next year (and even if I did, I wouldn't be ready for IV), so the Cup is a windfall for me. I will focus on carrying through as far as I can. In the early rounds, when I hopefully play against bots, I expect to be able to get away with playing my backups in the cup match (though not to the extent I do in friendlies) and PICing, as I did last season.

The moment of truth is the first home game, if I get that far (knock on wood). At that point, I'll do whatever it takes to win the game and get myself another round, which may go all the way to playing my starters and MOTSing. Last season, I was lucky, I caught a weak autodemotee from IV that I was able to beat playing normal.

I wonder what the message board is that the author mentions?

LOL! I figured that I had gone to all that trouble to write up some of the possibilities that I might as well see if someone was silly enough to publish it. I'm not what I'd consider a writer. In fact, I figured the 'zine didn't like it and wasn't gonna publish the 'piece' as I submitted it the same day we discussed this issue.

Next time I'll mention the board. Sorry.

:)

PS> I've been published! :P

I've been published before, in a small way, but I'm guessing 10,000 people will have read that thing before the weeks up. If they all paid a cent to read it, you'd have $100. You got screwed!

I wonder if people will heed it though. Today I got a formidable playmaker, powerful, passable defense today in a bidding war for about $800k. First time I've gotten in a real, down-in-the-dirt, my-mouse-is-faster-than-your-mouse bidding war since I first starting playing hattrick. I gotta think he's going to help my press. If not, I'm just an idiot.
I also have two strikers with passable defense, one with inadequate, all with at least inadequate stamina. The stamina'll be higher before next season. That might catch some people by surprise, when I press with a 3-4-3.
Nice work, though I think I speak for the entire BigSoccer Family when I say I feel dirty and used.

My boys are still traveling back from their European trip. Should be available to challenge in about 4 or 5 hours time.

Hopefully this friendly will be my "Yes, I am staying up party!"
