I play the last place team in the final week and should be guaranteed 3 points there. My rival is playing the top of the league away next week. Surely he will lose that one. Which means I need a point at home to the 5th place team who is marginally better than me to stay up. Ugh.

Know the feeling. Some how I'm in 5th now. Play the 6th place team next week at home and finish the season at the current 2nd place team's place.

If I stay up, great and if I go down, great. It will take a miricle for me to get the 4th spot even though I am 4 pts behind.

The only way you'd get in trouble going down is if you had the bad luck to happen upon one of the human divisions (in the mid 900's and from 1 to ca. 25).

On a BigSoccer federation - my three fed spots are already occupied (two for other boards I frequent, one for LOTA), and I'm not interested in dropping any.

I'm pretty much guarenteed to autopromote to iii next season, where I'll almost certainly get crushed, and sent right back down to iv.

Anyone have any info on USA VI? You'll probably be in a bot league, which means you're likely to win every game in the season. This is my first full season in HT and I'm in D6. I haven't lost a point yet and my team is profitable.

The day after my current opponent changed ownership, a team that I had won and lost to changed ownership too. It's likely to finish in the 4th slot.

Looks like I'm in for a relegation match. I should win this week against the newbie and if so, I'll stay away from relegation unless that newbie somehow defeats the 1st place team (like if #1 pics or gets multiple ejections). I'd like to PIC my last game against the 8th place bot in prep for the relegation match.

Well team I'm suppose to play next Sun just got a new owner so it may look like I get to stay. However chances that I have to play in the play off game to stay up shall be interesting. If I play a bot, I'll aim for the win. If it is against a human, then I'll see if I even have a chance, otherwise I'll just pic and use it for training newbies.

Just thought I'd say hi. I actually joined up at hattrick because of this thread, and its been good overall in helping me get a feel for the game. Looking forward to posting here a lot in the future. :)

Oh this becomes the place to inform everyone how great you or if you are like me, how bad you suck.

Seriously though, this is where I think I have learned the most about HT and used what I have learned to help me improve.

V.114 is a tough series. You should be able to catch up if you hang in there, but it won't happen immediately. Best of luck in your qualification game.

FWIW, Harold Dunning looks miscast as an offensive IM. 1.5* seems too low for a player of his value in passable form.

I initially had him at striker but he wasn't productive. I moved him there last game and he scored two goals. His form has improved though....I don't like the 3-5-2 because i kept getting torched on the one side, so I moved to the 4-5-1 because of my solid striker. We'll see how it works against Jayhawks FC.
You think he should be a striker?

Ok we all know that the new coaching prices are jacked up and I read something that can beat the system. Look for a player with decent experience and leadership. Thinkig to myself, not a bad idea so I did some scouting and found these players. Might would have to leave them on the bench, but their skill levels make it a decent bargin as they could be back ups and then coach after a few weeks.

Boris Geerts (7044911)
30 years, inadequate form, healthy
A pleasant guy who is calm and honest.
Has passable experience and passable leadership abilities.

Markus Tungsjö (932844)

Just remember, the player has to be on your team for a full year before you can make him your coach.

And on the good side, I've clinched my division, but I'll most likely have to play a qualification game... time to PIC my last two games.

True, but as a sub/asst. coach/captian, might not hurt for a season. I'll probably get the Swedes to be the new coach. :)

Don't look at a single player's goal scoring, look at his * rating and look at the team's zonal rating (for a forward, central attack with a dash of wing attack on his side).

You think he should be a striker? I don't know, I don't know what his skills are. Key skills: Forward = scoring, passing, IM = playmaking, stamina, defending, passing, Winger = winger, PM, stamina, defending, passing, Defense = defending.

If you haven't done so already, you should read the manual, in particular section 14 The Player.

I just started a team:

Metairie United AFC
V.178
(225567)

I'd like to get some friendly matches in, preferably some away matches against teams who draw big crowds.

The problem is a lot of times for friendlies you won't get large crowds, I was playing abroad one week against a team and they drew 300, I've played quite a few friendlies where the attendence is under 1000, but that could just be me and my team, but if you want to play someone next week, you can play me, but my stadium only holds 10,000 once construction is completed. And I know that I should have a bigger stadium for the number of supporters that I have, but I can't lose the money right now. I should hopefully be able to expand again soon because I'm selling a goalie that I don't need anymore after a good youth pull and he's going for 65,000 right now, so I should be getting some money.

Yeah, he's strongest in scoring, but not as good as some of the other guys (although his form is good). DO you guys have any tips on how to improve a particular players form? I bought this guy Konig because of his stamina and passing but his form has been poor for weeks and does nothing in the matches i put him in (except draw yellow cards).
I don't have anyone lined up for a friendly next week, does someone in V. want to have a bigsoccer derby? :)

"DO you guys have any tips on how to improve a particular players form?" Yeah, how about virgin sacrifices to the Form God 'Jubo'. :p

Forget about improving form. It goes up and it goes down. Just keep the training intensity up and make sure the player keeps getting on the pitch at game time. And if his form is so bad that he shouldn't start, make sure to play him in the friendlies until he comes around.

Form oscillates up and down with no 'apparent' pattern. Just stick to your training regimen and put your best 11 on the field in a formation that suits your squad.

Changes in form, especially on newbie teams really impacts your player performance. I've got 3 passable IMs and 3 inadequates. Due to real good form of one of the inadequates, he starts over my third passable IM and gets much better results.

Oh, and welcome aboard! I just started this season too.

About that striker, if his form makes him no worse than your 2nd best striker at the moment, go with any of the 2 forward sets. 4-4-2 if you don't like the 3-5-2. What training regimen do you hope to pursue? At our early stages that should dictate your formation choice too.

Oh, and a nifty website for the US squads, http://usa.hatstats.info/
Just punch in your series number, like 'V.188', in that empty field at the top of the screen and press enter. Does a decent breakdown of stats and whatnot. Not perfect but a good place to start, especially if you don't have supporter yet. I don't.

If you're worried about figuring out your best lineup, you might consider looking at www.mybestteam.org -- they're not perfect (in particular, they don't seem to handle distribution of IMs with different individual orders properly), but it's usually a good starting point.

I have a friendly booked tonight. I'll be PICing on the road against a decent team this week, so I may not be a good choice for a friendly next week -- I'm not sure my supporters will be all that happy with me.

Thanks for the website info, and you're right the IM was a little suspect, but overall it was very helpful. I'm just trying to keep my head above water right now, debt has made it so I can't buy anyone else and i'm trying to work out of all that mess. The coach is inadequate in terms of leadership, so once im out of debt i'll probably get a solid..although I'm not sure how much that will help me.
