After todays performance marking Ruud, I think that Sven has no choice but to install Woodgate on his national side. Great performance today!

yeah, that's because Van Noodlehead actually played against a competent defender.

Newcastles whole defence has been playing really well of late, and the return of Woody at the back is no coincidence to this.

I've just noticed looking at our results that in our last eleven games we have only conceded four goals. we also haven't even conceeded in 2004 so lets hope we can carry this on against Fulham on Monday.

Just too bad the lads haven't won more games with that stellar defensive showing.

Couldn't have said that better myself. We've never been accused of having a solid defense, and it's funny that we can't seem to put the ball in the back of the net enough. A couple more wins would see us in that coveted fourth and possibly even be a bit closer to Chelsea for that 3rd spot.

I should have phrased that as: "A couple more wins instead of the draws we have would have seen us in that fourth spot and a bit closer to Chelsea".

It wasn't just Woodgate who shut down Ruud.... Andy O'Brien had a fine game and held up Ruud twice with the ball at his feet and facing goal, a second defender arrived and all RVN could do was dump it off away from the goal.

My impression was that Bernard made fewer forward runs, as well.

I agree Woodgate should get a call-up. Terry has played well enough recently for England, but Woodgate can give him a run for his money, IMO.

I'm totally in agreement with you divingheader, however I would like to make this point. It is painfully clear that O'Brien seldom plays as well as he did on Sunday when Woody is not in the lineup. He seems to bring confidence to the back four that is not definitely not there when he is not on the pitch.
