I find that I'm going to have a free weekend in Germany between two trade shows that I'm attending and I thought I might try to take in the Werder Bremen vs. Hannover match while in country.
I was hoping someone on this board could give me some pointers such as...
Where exactly is Werder Bremen? What's the main train station in town? Do you have any accomodation recommendations in the city.
What's a good source for tickets? Do matches normally sell out or can I get a ticket at the box office on match day?
I have to make my way from Dresden to Munich between Friday afternoon and Monday morning so if it's a reasonable trip on Die Bahn I just might make it to the match.
Thanks in advance.

Bremen main station (not very original, i know). There is a public transport line between the station and the stadium.

You can order tickets online on Bremen's official website: www.werder-online.de

Average attendance is 35000 (capacity around 45000 or so), so normally it should be possible to get tickets at the match day (on the other Hannover isn't that far away, so there will be quite a few away fans. Last year the game was sold out.)

That could be a long trip. I guess the trip from Dresden to Bremen will take 3-4 hours and from Bremen to Munich 6-7 hours (very rough estimate).

if you know you have a ticket, i'd make the effort - could be a fun attacking match with those two

Actually, you answered it perfectly. I did a quick seach of my mapping program and came up with a town called Werder, Germany and one called Bremen, Germany. I didn't know which one was the right place but you've cleared it up.
It's actually too bad it's not Werder as that is much closer to Dresden than Bremen is :)
Thanks for all your help.

the train fares in germany are discounted 25-50% if you buy your tickets three days before you travel

29th match day (http://www.dfb.de/bliga/bundes/archiv/2003/spieltage/e_bs1m29.html) (April 17th/18th):
Werder Bremen - Hannover 96
VfB Stuttgart - Eintracht Frankfurt
VfL Wolfsburg - SC Freiburg
Borussia Mönchengladbach - Hertha BSC Berlin
1. FC Kaiserslautern - Hansa Rostock
Schalke 04 - Bayer Leverkusen
Borussia Dortmund - Bayern München
1860 München - Hamburger SV
1. FC Köln - VfL Bochum
2 matches will be at 5.30pm on Sunday, 7 at 3.30pm on Saturday.
Werder Bremen -Hannover 96 is a good choice but even better would be Borussia Dortmund - Bayern München (ok, ok,...I am a Borussia Dortmund supporter but this is really a top match!)
Last year Bremen-Hanover was sold out and will most likely sell out in April. Dortmund-Bayern will definitely be sold out very early (some hours after the ticket sale starts).
Travel durations by train (rough averages):
Dresden -> Bremen : 5:30h
Bremen -> München : 6:00h
Dresden -> Dortmund : 6:00h
Dortmund -> München : 6:00h

Hi there.
I did attend last seasons game between Bremen and Hannover and it was a lot of fun. Ok, could be because Hannover is my team and we won ;-)
Nevertheless its a neat stadium and warm atmosphere.

Don't take that to literally. ;-) It can be pretty chilly in Bremen this time of the year.
