Frings makes a strong comeback - Rosicky outstanding player in 5-1 win over Shanghai
[9.01.] Borussia Dortmund have started the year 2004 with a win. In the 5-1 (3-1) victory against the Chinese champions Shensua Shanghai Torsten Frings made a strong comeback 177 days after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury. Tomas Rosicky was the outstanding player of the game. The Czech scored one goal and assisted three others. Wörns, Reina, Herrlich and Koller were the other scorers.
Borussia gave a good performence on the well-kept pitch of the "Marbella Paradise of Football" centre. The Chinese team with the former German international Jörg Albertz took the lead after 15 minutes, but Tomas Rosicky levelled the game again inside 60 seconds.
The Czech was also involved in Dortmund´s second goal when Wörns headed BVB into the lead from a corner. Just before the half-time whistle Giuseppe Reina added another when he volleyed home from Sebastian Kehl´s cross.
Second-half substitute Heiko Herrlich scored the fourth goal on the hour from short range. Jan Koller, who also came on after the break, completed the rout after 70 minutes when he struck home Odonkor´s sharp cross. Kehl, who was also having a good game, had started the successful attack with a fine pass on the right flank.
Torsten Frings´ comeback lasted approximately one hour. The midfielder was involved in Borussia´s first goal when he broke down the right and then crossed the ball precisely to Rosicky. And Frings was not only present on the pitch, he also spurred on his team-mates and took on the role of the leader. Uwe Hünemeier was also a happy camper on Friday night. The 18-year-old gave his professional debut in the game against Shensua.
