Tough group once again for Guate. With the loss last week against a Costa Rican team, it was a negative score for the Chapines but in their defense it was their first time playing together, and not as an excuse they were coming out of an intense training so their bodies were still hard. Nevertheless i rather see Guatemala loose in their friendlys and correct their mistakes now rather then Guate loosing in the Uncaf.

En su carrera por el futbol nacional “tavo” ha defendido las camisolas de Comunicaciones y Copagsa; mientras que fuera del país lo hizo con el Real Salt Lake City de la MLS y recientemente con el club Aarhus de Dinamarca.

De cara al torneo de Clausura 2009, Jalapa ha confirmado, además de Gustavo Cabrera, en calidad de refuerzos a los siguientes futbolistas: Rodrigo de León, Paulo César Motta, Fernando Gallo, Marvin de Paz, Edín López, Walter Alegría, Elver Jiménez y Juan José Paredes

El único gol de Guatemala fue anotado por Selvin Joel Motta.
Los costarricenses se pusieron en ventaja al cierre de la primera mitad, en un penal marcado por Carlos Picado. En el segundo tiempo aumentaron la cuenta con gol de Jhony Wooldy, para que luego descontara por los chapines Selvin Motta.
El resultado dejó de manifiesto una vez más lo incoveniente que es jugar contra equipos, ya que si una Selección gana se dirá que lo logra por ser lo mejor de un país y, si pierde, el ridículo no puede esconderse, por lo que siempre serán partidos de pierde-pierde.
En el caso presente, la situación se agrava por el hecho de que San Carlos no es de los principales equipos de Costa Rica, el partido se jugó en Guatemala y los ticos enfrentaron en los tres días previos a Petapa y San Pedro, conjuntos con los que apenas logró empatar.
Del lado de Guatemala se podrá argumentar que se ha estado trabajando duro en lo físico, que el equipo aún no está conjuntado, etc., o quizá escucharemos que el técnico está satisfecho por la aplicación táctica de sus jugadores, ya que, igual que en el juego contra Estados Unidos, Guatemala fue amplio dominador (?).
En el primer tiempo, Guatemala alineó así:
Cristian Alvarez; Carlos Castrillo, Yony Flores, Edwin Enríquez y Claudio Albizuris; Cristian Noriega, Jean Márquez, Marco Pappa y Gregory Lester Ruiz; Minor López y Carlos Castillo.
En el segundo tiempo jugaron:
Luis Pedro Molina (Ricardo Jerez); Jaime Vides, Cristian Noriega, Wilson Lalìn y Jaime Vides; Wilfred Velásquez, Edgar Cotto, Mercedes Vásquez y Abner Trigueros; Minor López y Selvin Motta.
Los únicos que jugaron los noventa minutos fueron Minor López y Cristian Noriega.

Honduras, Nicaragua, Belize are you serious :confused:, the only really tough match for the Salvies is Honduras, then Nicaragua and Belize should be a easy win, so it seems ;)

Eventhough i like to see Cabrera play outside of Guatemala, I guess as a player you got to see whats more important to you. If Cabrera gets a chance to play in Argentina but with not a great pay but enough to get by, i hope he takes it cause he'll be watched by alot of teams, to me Argentina is the second best league, all the teams play with heart and none of the games are dull, and i mean none. By monday we should know where he will go. Until then, Have a good weekend fellas and dont drink and drive. Stay safe and watch Madrid climb that ladder :D

ya but at the same timee, thats one thing we are lacking, players with experience outside the guate league. we have pappa (and ruiz) in the mls, and contreras in argentina. other then that, no key players in other leagues. not saying we have a bad leauge IN guate, but to stand against teams like argentina, brazil, we gotta have players playing where our oppopnents are.

Well first of all let me say welcome to the Guatemalan thread and hope to see you more in here with the rest of us in here. Well i dont know if you're aware but we have another Chapin playing in South America, Carlos Figueroa just signed with Olimpia of Paraguay, i dont know if you know much about that team, but they one of the top teams in South America. We need more Chapines abroad i totally agree with you on that one. Lets hope more sign this year.:cool:

You know i havent heard that but our friend "USA" which usually comes here, will let us know if he knows anything about that.

I also know that there's two young chapines playing in the young squads in Brazil, one for Palmeiras and one for Corinthians. Also, Gerson Lima playing for the young squad of San Lorenzo in Argentina, and i know you know that Carlos Villa of the U-23 of Guate is here playing for Harthford University in Boston, the Hawks. Check the website, something us Chapines should be proud of.

Hay que recordar que de momento, 21 futbolistas se entrenan con el seleccionado nacional, de cara al torneo centroamericano.

La Selección Nacional Mayor de Guatemala, que dirige el Prof. Benjamín Monterroso continúa con el trabajo de preparación con miras a la Copa de Naciones 2009 a realizarse en Honduras. Como parte de la preparación el combinado nacional realizará dos juegos de fogueo en territorio estadounidense, el día sábado 17 de enero se enfrentará a la Selección de Haití, en el Estadio Longwood de la ciudad de Ford Pierce en Miami,Florida a las 19:00 hrs. (hora Miami) y para el día martes 20 de enero el representativo guatemalteco jugará ante su similar de Dinamarca en las instalaciones del Hotel Holiday Inn en el estado de Fort Lauderdale, Miami. Este encuentro se desarrollará a las 10:30 hrs. (hora Miami) a puerta cerrada.

El volante Édgar Cotto vive días de ensueño en la Selección Nacional, ya que fue convocado por el estratega Benjamín Monterroso y ahora sueña, a días de cumplir sus 25 años (nació el 27 de enero de 1984), con ser titular en el equipo que dispute la Copa de Naciones, la primera que jugará en su carrera.
El nivel mostrado por el jugador de Comunicaciones en las finales del Apertura 2008 fue valorado por Monterroso, y fue llamado a la bicolor momentos después de haber ganado el cetro con los albos.
Cotto ha sido utilizado por el timonel en el medio campo, sector en el cual ha tenido ciertas libertad para proyectarse al ataque.
“Se ha practicado con una doble contención en el sistema del profesor Monterroso, pero hay partidos, como contra el San Carlos, en que tuve libertad para atacar”, comentó Cotto
