The English tabloids are going to be pissed when they find out they got scooped by a Bulgarian newspaper.

One of the dumbest "articles" I have read in a while. He probably wants an improved contract at some point but calling it a "vicious row" seems ludicrous.

Too lazy to quote

I don't think people are against signing Arshavin, but the manner of his transfer saga has changed some minds including mine. I repeated this in the previous transfer thread, but he has reiterated his desire to leave, even threatening his current club that he'll only be a player on paper or that he'll buyout his contract. It just seems like he'd pull the same antics if another top club comes knocking along in the future. Arshavin may be a top quality player and I'm sure he'll make an impact for our team if he signs, but Zenit's asking price is absurd. Even shelling out the 'reported' 12m quid (for a player that has less than one year left on his contract) is quite generous. I think 7.5-8m plus bonuses based on appearances and silverware or 10m straight up is fair.

If we make a deal we will surely offer him a new contract before we complete the transfer.

I am not against Arshavin's signing; what I am against is signing only Arshavin in the January window, because a more important issue is that we are yet to fill the gap left by Flamini. At the moment our midfield is too lightweight, and without anyone winning balls in the midfield we are asking for trouble. Arshavin will be little more than a luxury signing, he'll take months to adapt and by the time he does adapt Cesc and Walcott will probably be back from injury, the season could be almost over and we could be staring at the UEFA cup next season.

I'm not convinced Arshavin is the right signing for us. But that's prolly why I'm not managing Arsenal.

If we do sign Arshavin, i think he stays for 2 years then goes to Italy or Spain for what we bought him for.

You don't trust the Bulgarian press? You're so cynical...

looking through the sky sports paper talk (rumors) and theres a little segment there that says arsenal won't offer a contract to Arshavin because he wants 100,000 a week.

if it's true, then....lol

He'd do well to get 70k a week from the club.

Just so you know at the end of the day, my suggested thread title was far more amusing and attractive to the eye, like.

I just can't talk about Arshavin anymore so I'm going to switch it up a bit.

This doesn't specifically relate to an immenent transfer but it does tie into Arsene's transfer policy. Young Guns just finished their "9 youngsters to watch" thing and I know it's a blog...but it's not like their writing an "exclusive" story about Toure leaving...it's about the reserves which given the fact that that seems to be the focus of the blog I would hope they have a fair bit of knowledge on the youth and reserve players.

They picked Coquelin (18 years old in May) as their top player to watch and with the best shot of breaking into the first team in 2009. Every time I've seen him play I've been really impressed with him (at CM and RB). He's defensively sound, strong in the tackle, Flamini-like energy and running, and judging by his RB performances stronger than quite a few other DM's when going forward.

Knowing that Wenger and the staff know more about the reserves than any of us or a blog would, it could be that we won't see a CM come in this january or summer 2009 because Wenger is expecting Coquelin to make the leap into the first team. I'm not saying I totally agree with that strategy but if Coquelin stays fit and keeps improving this year (maybe makes a few starts in the last couple games and impresses) it wouldn't surprise me if we don't make a move for CM in order to leave the spot open for him.

It seems likely that Coquelin is still a ways off. I was impressed by what I have seen of him, but he is still quite young and hasn't been here for very long.

I like Young Guns, I just think that sometimes they do not adequately moderate their expectations. Out of the nine that made their list, if two of them actually make it here, it would be a stunning achievement.
