Edit: re-reading the thread DaPrince may have been specifically asking for instances in which we seemed to actually give up during the course of the match. I don't know if we gave up in those instances that I listed or we never seemed to come to play in the first place. In any case... I think this squad needs an infusion of talent/depth but I'm not holding my breath until February.
the only matches I think we just threw in the hat were City and Villa, and thats two times too many...
but their has been fight in many matches also... its just inconsistency...
we do need some creativity tho... but maybe we are on the right track... we are on a 7 match unbeaten streak in the league even tho we are not playing well...

Exactly. I don't know where this whole not reading the post thing came from but does anyone think we have a crew that will never give up? If anything this team over the course of the season has produced the opposite.
I'm not saying I think we have a squad that will never give up. You both asked the guy why he thought that when he clearly explained why he thought that. I'm not saying I agree with him just pointing out he already answered the question you guys were asking him.
If you disagree with him that is fine but I just found it weird you guys were asking a question he already answered...just trying to be helpful :)
And as for the team...No I don't think they have showed great resolve but they have showed flashes for big games, which is promising.
And I also think we need to add a piece in the midfield to help hold possession and create chances and space. We have been in need of this all year.

The fact that management is fixated on Arshavin to the point where the process of negotiation keeps us, as a practical matter, from signing anybody else. It's mostly a fancy way of saying that management can't walk and chew gum at the same time.
Well this would be the same with anyone we bought. When you have a limited budget, you have to wait for one transfer to settle before you can move to the next target. If you don't, you will not know how much money you will have left to work with. It makes no sense to negotiate with X number of clubs about various targets knowing fully that you can only afford one or two players. Despite it being bad form, it also is a bad practice.
BTW, I find it funny that you say that our management can't walk and talk at the same time depsite the fact that we have a new person handling the negotiations that has been on the job for a whole eleven days. I am glad that you have him all figured out so quickly.

we have great sources on this board... I was just talking to the Zenit GM yesterday, and he said he is unsure of Gazidas

They are young yes, but when you have in-experience sometimes they dont know when to give up and end up suprising a few people with their hunger and lack of fear.
The back and forth over this has been way too literal-minded. Nobody gives up a game, but that's a low bar. In particular, it doesn't necessarily mean that the team is giving a decent effort or meeting reasonable expectations. Our team isn't, and we've seen more than enough games to know.

ANDREI ARSHAVIN will sign for Arsenal this month — despite Zenit St Petersburg turning down an initial £10million bid.
A Zenit insider revealed: “Negotiations between the clubs about Arshavin are continuing.
“Since both sides want them to be successful, we should expect a good outcome soon — and certainly before the end of the transfer window.”
Club spokesman Alexei Petrov revealed: “I can confirm that Zenit did get an official offer of about £10m from Arsenal for Andrei Arshavin.
“It was rejected as insufficient. No new offers have arrived from them since.
“At the moment, only Arsenal have officially appr-oached us about the player.”
The bid is far below Zenit’s asking price of around £23m set last summer.
But Arshavin is allegedly ‘desperate’ to play for the Gunners and has even been taking a crash course in English.
that Man City stuff seems like agent trying to boost the wages up to me...

I don't know whether it is crap or not, but I have to believe that if other clubs find out that Arshavin is about to go for anythig close to 10 million pounds, there will be one or two other teams interested before this is all said and done.

I completely agree. It's interesting to watch this play out so publicly.

The hell it is. Job applicants, housesellers, and car dealers do that all the time. It's a part of almost any negotation over price where there's more than one possible opposite number.
If somehow we find out tomorrow that we've signed Ribery from Bayern, well then our bid for Arshavin is no good. If we bought Distin from Portsmouth, there's no reason why it isn't. Everybody understands that, or ought to.
Besides which, we have all the money we need to buy players as the need arises. Peter Hill-Wood has assured us of that ad nauseum.

this may be true, but a lot of teams are soured on dude after the Spain match... none of the Spanish teams are interested in him...
the only Italian team that has been rumored is Juve, but Arshavin visited Emirates and is learning English so I dont think he wants to goto Italy... Munchen were rumored also, but it doesnt look like they are moving for anyone this window...
I could see Chelsea sneaking in a bid, but Roman is looking disinterested right now and said they are not spending money... of course they just got 13 for Wayne Bridge...
I still stand by my 15 million bid for Arshavin getting him...

I'm putting this rumor here for a reason...
And Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is lining up a £10m swoop for Wigan midfielder Wilson Palacios. (The People)
We had the chance to buy him for $1m and Arsene instead recommended him to Steve Bruce. Given our shortage of midfielders, looks like we dropped the ball in letting him slip through our fingers, even if ultimately we would end up selling him.

Yeah, i'm also thinking that Zenit will sell him for something in the 14-16 range. But i wonder what we're offering in salary? Maybe 70k a week?

And I look at that as Arsene saying, "Steve, look, there's this guy, he's good, real good but he's not good enough for us. You should take a look at him."

didnt we have like 4 or 5 CMs when we had him on trial?
he did come good tho...

that maybe it, which is why I think the agent started the City story...
there are also reports that Arshavin is willing to take a paycut (he is on 80-90k a week now)

Pretty sure he's a wing and IIRC, we were light on wing last year too.

Well that makes even more sense then. Everyone knows we only play CMs on the wing anyway. :p

I haven't watched him a lot, but I'd take him right now over Diaby on the wing and prolly Eboue too.
