I heard that this was a possibility at the beginning of the season but since have heard nothing.
Any news on this.

They were discussing it on the MSG show Angles the other day and it sounded like it was almost an eventuality. Only about 4-5 teams are making money. They said that unless the players make some serious concessions, there will be no hockey next fall.

The CBA ends sometime in the offseason.

The Collective Bargaining aggreement ends in September, 2004. Theoretically, if a new aggreement is not in place, the players could find themselves locked out of training camp next season. ESPN has a little CBA info here: http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/story?id=1616027
