The teams have been assigned and will now be drawn...six groups of four - top two advance, plus the four best third round finishers into the knockout stage. If your player did not make the squad, please realize that he had to pull out because of a bad hammy. Teams are final.

I will present the draw for all six groups, but only Group A will be discussed in this thread. Once all matches have been played, the next thread will be started for the next group. Popular opinion as to who will win each match will be highly noted.

The draw, as determined with no seeding and pulled out of a blue and grey beanie I have...sounds so official, don't it?

The Draw:

Group A

Team "Y" (Yakubu, Yasser, Yobo, Yelldell, etc.)
Team "P" (Pauleta, Pires, Puyol, Perez, etc.)
Team "R" (Ronaldo, Rui Costa, Ramelow, Rustu, etc.)
Team "K" (Koller, Kaka, Kovac, Kahn, etc.)

Group B

Team "B" (Bellamy, Beckham, Ballack, Buffon, etc.)
Team "F" (Forssell, Figo, Ferdinand, Friedel, etc.)
Team "J" (Jardel, Juninho, Juanfran, Jaaskelainen)
Team "A" (Adriano, Aimar, Ayala, Abbiati, etc.)

Group C

Team "V" (Van Nistelrooy, v.d.Vaart, v.Buyten,etc.)
Team "L" (Lopez, Lamouchi, Lizarazu, Lehmann, etc.)
Team "U" (Urzaiz, Unsal, Upson, Ujfalusi, etc.)
Team "E" (Elber, Edmundo, Edmilson, Enckelmann)

Group D

Team "C" (Crespo, Conceicao, Chivu, Casillas, etc.)
Team "H" (Henry, Helveg, Helguera, Howard, etc.)
Team "D" (Del Piero, Deco, Davids, Dida, etc.)
Team "N" (Neuville, Nedved, Nesta, Notario, etc.)

Group E

Team "W" (Wamberto, Wiltord, Woerns, Westerweld)
Team "T" (Trezeguet, Totti, Thuram, Toldo, etc.)
Team "O" (Owen, Overmars, Onopko, Ovchinikov)
Team "G" (Guti, Giggs, Gattuso, Given, etc.)

Group F

Team "Z" (Zickler, Zidane, Ze Roberto, Ziegler, etc.)
Team "S" (Shevchenko, Scholes, Seedorf, etc.)
Team "I" (Inzaghi, Inamoto, Innocenti, Itandje, etc.)
Team "M" (Morientes, Mendieta, Maldini, Molina, etc.)

The exact teams will be named at the start of each match. I guess we'll just go ahead and play every match and see who wins...we've got time until WC Qualifying starts, right?

Match #1

Team "Y" vs Team "P"

----------- Yelldell ------------
Yobo - Yepess - Yahia - Young
Yasser - Yakubu - Yebda - Yoo
--- Yakubu --- Yanigisawa ---

*************************

--------- Perez -------------
Panucci - Placente - Pavon - Puyol
Pires - Pienaar - Perez - Pirlo
--- Pizarro --- Pauleta ---

**************************

Again, these are the teams and they are not changeable now - there was a whole thread on this before where you could have made your voice heard. And let's try to not be so technical about positions and whatnot. I don't have that kind of time. Consider every match two teams playing a 442
against each other. So? Who wins this match and takes the important three points (tables to follow)?

Damnit, I forgot to post a poll and the system won't let me do it now. Can the mod make a poll for this thread? It should simply be 3 choices - "Team Y wins", "Team P wins", and "Draw." First choice to reach twenty votes gets the result.

Oh yeah, what's the Group of Death?

Team P should have no difficulty collecting all the three points. They have pedigree and about 80% have tasted Champions league football which is by far the leading club competition in the world.

The midfield may look a little thin but I see them walking over the largely unknown Y outfit.

Group D of course....comprising

Team "C" (Crespo, Conceicao, Chivu, Casillas, etc.)
Team "H" (Henry, Helveg, Helguera, Howard, etc.)
Team "D" (Del Piero, Deco, Davids, Dida, etc.)
Team "N" (Neuville, Nedved, Nesta, Notario, etc.)

I did this once for baseball on a simulator. Pretty fun stuff. M won, for anyone who cares.

I think "P" wins this match, walking away. Way too much firepower, and I don't see that "Y" defense being able to hold them to less than a couple of goals.

Is there no mod who can set up a poll? I'll do it for sure once this match gets sorted out on the next thread, but we need one here. As it stands, it looks like two votes for Team "P" over Team "Y"...and is waiting for twenty votes too ambitious? Maybe it should be ten...

15 min - Puyol down the wing , crosses - Pauleta poaches at the near post.

43 min - Free kick - Pirlo curler to the top corner.

50 min - a piece of Pires prestidigitation...

68 min - with 2 yakubus on the team one has to score

Team Y,Football is a funny game P just didn't bring it on the day.Yobo goal mouth scramble in the box deflected off his thigh in the 52nd minute Y just packs it in and gets the result. 1-0nil to Y

You should just ask which team is the best out of all the teams. That's what it's going to come down to, and that way it won't take two months.

Now where's the fun in that? We've got plenty of time until Qualifying starts. Looks like "P" is running away with this one. Nobody thinks a draw may be possible? And where's my poll?

Okay, so far it's nine to one for Team "P" over Team "Y". I'm throwing in my vote for a draw, 1:1. Opening match of a tournament usually throws in a surprise. So here's how it looks:

Team "Y" Win - 9
Team "P" Win - 1
Draw - 1

We still need 15 votes (this will be much easier for the next match when I remember to post the poll).
