After Fat Freddy's outburst, I'd expect that he would at least spend some money during this transfer period. (Unlike the summer)
Any news yet?

What is the club waiting for?
Fat Freddy will have no right to blast the team if he goes the entire season and only signed one player on a free.

While I whole heartedly agree that with you Crew that we do indeed need to sign a new face or two, I think that somebody needed to say something. I never thought I'd be agreeing with Freddy, but the lads' performances over the holiday period were frankly *#*#*#*#*#e and did need a kick up their arses. I hope it did wake up some of the very well paid players on the team that their performances haven't been up to snuff.
I know that I even started a thread about it, and said that he should have spent some more dosh. But, after thinking about it, and the result from his verbal tirade I think it made some sense. It should have been Bobby not Freddy though saying the team needed to start playing better.
But a new defender and maybe another striker would be most welcome.

Eider Gudjonsen's name is being mentioned quiet a bit and the fact thats it's metioned in the local paper means it has some merit to it. Personally i think he's perfect for us. Also Juve want to get Davids out on loan so hurry up bobby and sign him up.

Maybe someone has to go first to make some room?

Still no moves yet?
Is Fat Freddy gonna waste an entire year?

It just might be the case that Freddy is not gonna spend any cash for the season.
We've recently been linked with Juve's Marco Di Vaio. Now that would be an intriguing move. I've only seen Di Vaio a few times, but what I've seen of him, he's been impressive. Loads of skill and he's a great finisher. I doubt that he'd be willing to come to Tyneside though.
Personally, I'd like to us pick up a new defender. Preferably somebody who's proven at the back.

Nicky Butt's name is being thrown around a bit. I would love to see him at Newcastle. He's just what we need in midfield, a better and younger Gary Speed.
As for strikers we made a £2million bid for Alan Smith but it was dismissed as "Cheeky". I'd just love to see a world class striker that can replace Shearer for the next 4-5 seasons at the club.

Maybe Freddy isn't too happy with Bobby, perhaps he will see where they are at the end of the season, then if he brings someone new in, they will have more money to reshape the team. If it was any other manager except Bobby I could believe that.

Fat Freddy is a stupid sod. He's not pleased, IMO, that Wor Bobby has hung around this long. I always have had the impression that Shephered hired Robson solely to save the club from the drop and that Robson would walk away and someone else would take over.
Well that hasn't happened. Now the stupid sod is looking for a reason to sack Wor Bobby.

I definitely missed an underlying plot here, but why would Fat Freddy want to sack Sir Bobby despite the success we've had in recent years?

I suspect Newcastle (and the rest of the eager EPL clubs) is waiting to see whether Leeds goes into administration or not by Monday. When it does, Smith and Viduka will set off an auctioning war, because there are clubs that are badly seeking strikers.
I would personally go with Viduka, even though Smith is younger. The Aussie, IMHO, is less of a head case and can replace Shearer (is inevitable he will retire) as a target forward.
The Butt deal would be nice, since its really the defense that is the club's weakness, although i would still address the back four as critical issues.
Sadly, I see Shepard *#*#*#*#in up as usual, and the status quo remains after the transfer period.
p.s. My dream is for Wiltord to be snatched up by Robson...can you imagine a Bellamy-Shearer-Wiltord forward line!?!?

Our priority must definatly be a striker, I like the idea of Alan Smith and could see him being a fans favourite with his work ethic and determination. I don't see Ameobi as a replacement for Shearer and we need another goal scorer. I say we make an offer for Smith (more than a pitiful 2m) or Viduka.
I have to disagree with Butt, I think we are fine in that position and I cant imagine Hugo being to happy about it(falling further down the pecking order).
I'm surprised Tore Andre Flo's name has not been thrown about to parter Cort. :)

We need Butt as a replacement for Speed who is being played out of postion anyway. Hugo is an attacking midfielder and so are the rest of out central midfielders. We need someone to sit infront of the back 4 like Makalale, Keane, Viera or Gerrard

I hear what you are saying but isn't JJ supposed to fill that role. I just think we need a striker more than a centre midfielder

I always thought that Jenas was going to be filling that role as well, but he has not played that position for us. He seems to be more attacking minded than one to sit in front of the back four. I will agree with you that we are in need of a striker. Although I think we will need some steel in the middle sooner rather than later.

I think we have to pick up either the defensive mid or a striker, maybe both. I can't see only getting one player last summer then nobody in this transfer window and expect to finish as high as last year.
