Philadelphia Soul... inspired by Philadelphia Soul music movemet of the late 70s? too much? :D

You are a marketing genius prince. Instead of MLS taking crap for trying to emulate European football teams, they can instead take crap for trying to emulate Arena League teams.

C'mon you had an idea. I'm pretty sure that's where you got your idea to string large nets up on the touch line, to increase scoring. ;)

Rafa going in on Fergie

wow... even tho he is still a waiter

My favorite part of that came a little later in the piece when he was talking about the way to correct the "problems" Fergie is complaining about...this is the 2nd option Rafa gives...

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

Eesh.

I agree with you...to a point. Many athletes lack a social conscience. Tiger Woods is possibly the most well-known athlete in the world He will smile and hawk Buicks, but he won't speak about anything the slightest bit controversial for fear of jeopardizing his sponsorship.
He's also a Nike guy. Remember what Michael Jordan said when they asked him to back Mayor Gantt against Senator Helms back in Carolina? "Republicans buy sneakers, too."

I guess he doesn't know that there are Democrats who don't like Gatorade (me, for example) and like Burger King over McDonald's (not me).

Four years later, he comes out for Bill Bradley for President. This leads me to think that either Helms or Bradley had something worked out with Nike, or Gatorade, or McDonald's. Not that I have any proof.

Magic Johnson once said that if Jordan copied his efforts in the community, "he really would own the world."

Like Jordan, Tiger Woods has done truly remarkable things in his game. But moral authority is like muscle: You have to use it, or you'll lose it.

I'd vote for Philadelphia Union. It kind of sounds like a European style name for a club but has it's own American connotations and would link in well with Philadelphia's place in American history....or Philadelphia SC b/c I think that would be the first team with "SC" in their name in MLS and that would add a unique American style to a traditional European style name.

You're right...AC Philadelphia is just wrong...especially (other than possibly Italian communities) very few people call the sport Calcio in the US. It reminds me of Real Salt Lake...in that it would sound like the MLS was just trying way too hard to associate a club with a famous name.

But that's all just my opinion.
I like "Philadelphia City." "Philadelphia Union" is a fine second choice. "AC" will just make them think of Atlantic City.

As for "Philadelphia MOVE," wait until they get on a hot streak.

Hopefully, they'll sign a player who'll be a whiz. Maybe even a "whiz wit."

Man United vs. Chelsea. Who to root for?

I don't like either one, but at the rate both teams are going, it's likely to be Man U that wins, and that (for the moment) helps Arsenal, so hand me that prawn sandwich over there. And something really strong to wash it down, none of that Chateau Chasse d'Gloire chardonnay.

Gotta root for the draw. I don't think Chelsea have what it takes to go all the way this year, and Manure are in a great position right now, so if someone has to win I'd rather it be the Chavs.

I'm rooting for another shocking game by an English ref that results in red cards and suspensions for 3 or 4 players on both sides.
