Team USA won the gold medal at the 2004 IIHF World Junior Championships by defeating Canada 4-3. After being down 3-1 in the third period, Team USA scored 3 unanswered goals in the 3rd period to win. The US finished the World Championships with a perfect 6-0-0 record.
Looks like a bright future for USA Hockey and anyone who is a USA Hockey fan.

Was the game available on US TV? Shame if it wasn't.
Canada also blew a third period lead last year in the final.
Oh well.... six medals in six years is not that bad for Canada (4 silver and 2 bronze medals). For some reason they just can't put it together in the final.
The silver medal will not go over well in Canada because the media/people always expects a gold medal in hockey. What really hurts is the way the winning goal was scored. Canadian goalie tries to clear the puck, but it hits a Canadian player and goes into the net... ouch...
Congratulations to the US.

Yeah, that 4th goal was crazy. Andre Fleury (the next Roy) made a huge mistake with that attempted clearence which ended with the puck in his own net. I don't know if the game was on TV in the US...certainly not on national TV. I listened to the audio of the game on USA Hockey's website.
That's weird that this is Canada's 4th straight silver medal in this competition.
Also interesting is the fact that much of this USA team was made up of members on last year's gold medal team in the U18 championships.

It wasn't on nationally, but if you subscribed to NHL CenterIce, you could watch the TSN feed live.

How many US players are eligible to return to the next WJHC? The only one I know of is the goalie (Montoya).
I know Canada can return up to 13 players next year...

I think the rule is you can only return 13 from your roster last year. With the possibility of a work stoppage next year teams could really have awesome rosters next year.

This is great, but gotta move it to hockey.
Needless to say, I was stunned when "The bottomline" said USA 4 Canada 3.

I think much of the USA team was made up of the same players who won the U18 gold medal at the world championships the year before...this must be a pretty good group of players coming up.

Even if he did get beat on this shot, nothing like seeing the USA jersey matched with the Wolverine helmet! :)

Since the soccer people (Sean Wheelock) are doing it, why not see where this championship ranks in the Top 10 all time games of USA Hockey?
Naturally, No. 1 is the 1980 Miracle On Ice.
But you have to put the 1995 World Cup win over Canada along with USA 1960 Olympic Team beating the Czechs for the gold as well as the 2003-4 WJC.
I'd also have to have the 7-3 Olympic win over Czechoslovakia in 1980, the 6-1 Olympic win over Switzerland in 1988, and the 2-2 tie with Sweden in 1980 right up there as well.
Somewhere up high you have to have US Women 3, Canada 1 in Nagano, though.

Not to split hairs, but WC was 1996. If you're talking individual games, then Game 3 has to rank third behind USSR-80 and Finland-80.
