Hasn;t Larrson said in the past that he wants to return to Sweden to play his remaining days?

Just wait till the summer. I can see it hapening. Larson and Sherear up front? Holy cow! And then Dryr had a great game yesterday....could be a good next season for your team.
Getting that Champions league brith would also be appealing.

Fair enough assessment, but it's been widely reported that we are interested... and just that. Not that he is for certain going to Tyneside in the summer, but that Uncle Bobby is interested in signing him. That's all.

It's a lie. I get the Sunday Sun and it didn't say at all. They have missed large chunks of text out which if read properly show that he is just admiring Larsson and Celtic and not trying to buy him. Anyway i don't want him he's too old and not a proven PREMERSHIP goalscorer. My blind grandmother could score 20 goals a season in Scotland. Buy Arjen Robben, Bobby beat Fergie to him!!

I have heard Larsson wants to go to a warm weather country,so I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't end up in La Liga or in the Middle East where the oil barons can pay him millions.

Unlike other players that score bucketloads of goals in mediocre European leagues (e.g. Kezman), Larsson is a proven goalscorer at every level. In fact, he has amassed more goals than Nistelrooy, Owen, and Henry in European competition, and his international strike rate is better than Nistelrooy's. Just in the last 18 months he scored three goals in four games in the World Cup and finished as the leading scorer in the UEFA Cup, scoring twice in the final. Larsson has proven reasonable doubt that he can score at any level.
Sure, if Larsson partners Shearer next season, Newcastle's starting strikers will have a combined age of 67. But it surprises me that a Newcastle fan of all people would consider rejecting a striker based on his age. As Larsson will be available on a free transfer in the summer I would consider him a gift.

Yes but how many of his goals have been against eastern european rubbish and i haven't seen Celtic dommiating Europe the last couple of seasons. I don't want the club to waste money on the wages of someone who only has one good season left in him. I'd rather buy a player from the future. Having said that i'd expect as much from a Liverpool fan buy over-rated rubbish seams to be their speciality

I do not understand your reasoning. Last season Larsson did face weak opponents in the early rounds of the UEFA Cup but he also scored against teams like Blackburn, Liverpool, and Porto. As for "eastern european rubbish," I hope I don't have to remind you of Partizan Belgrade.
I also have two points about Robben:
1. He is not a striker. He is an all-purpose forward/midfield player, capable of playing on the wing or just off the leading man but NOT as a striker. Don't mistake him for a prolific goalscorer because he isn't one.
2. Despite the strength of Ajax and PSV, Robben plays in a league that is ranked below Greece by UEFA. If you believe Larsson's achievements should be discounted because he plays in a mediocre league, you should have doubts about Robben.
Finally, don't assume I support Houllier's recruitment policy because I am a Liverpool fan - I don't.

I have to agree about Larsson's scoring capability. Not only is he more reliable than Van Noodlehead, he doesn't dive as much, if at all.

Larsson has been quoted as wanting a more sunny
place to live on his next contract. Now Newcastle has its charms but its hardly a step up from Glasgow when one is looking for sun, or sophistication, or the cosmopolitan pleasures a wealthy man might look for.

There was only ever a slim chance of Larrson staying in the UK. He mentioed all last summer that he wanted to return to Sweden to play his final year(s) out. A nice offer was made by NUFC but Larrson had probably already made up his mind. IMO....
