First of all, I am playing devil's advocate. Of course I knew the scores from the games, I watch most of them live or tape delay. The point is, some days I don't. I come in from games every weekend and may not have seen a particular match and wait for the Sunday highlights to catch up, rather than reading about it online. The action may only be some seconds, but like one match I did miss live, it was great to see Fulham tie Chelsea in the dying minutes. That was thrilling. Had I seen the score on the stupid ticker, I would not have got the same thrill.

I am sure you go to movies having read the entire synopsis and ending before you actually watch the story. Well, I don't. I enjoy letting the movie or match take me for a ride.

Now to the point. THERE IS NO NEED FOR A BLOODY TICKER DURING A HIGHLIGHT SHOW!!!

It's the pure amateurism of presenting our sport that makes me sick.

If FSC just let SKY Sports run LIVE every day, there would be no issue from me and I suspect anyone else. That is because they are professionals at what they do. FSC are not, and as a soccer community we should not accept rank amateurism in the broadcasting of our sport.

If the NFL, NBA and MLB can get world class coverage every day, then we deserve world class coverage of the Premier League, LIVE, delayed or highlighted. Simple!
Sky Sports News does this all the time, they show the score before they show the highlights.

Yeah, Sky Sports is beyond awful.

"(insert team here) were held to just a single goal, that by (insert name here) in the (insert minute)" as they beat (opponents) (score) in a match at (stadium)."

Then they proceed to show you the pictures, presumably, so you can see they weren't lying. Of course since they've ruined the ending, there's no reason to show you the highlights.

If Sky Sports News had produced Ocean's Eleven they would have brought up a flashing sign for the audience that says "The tape Andy Garcia is watching is fake! That's not the real vault!!!"

Geez, dude, did you seriously just plop a movie spoiler right into your post?!

I think society's unwritten rule is that a movie has to be a decade old before it's OK to talk openly about the ending...

My apologies. I thought eight years and two sequels was enough time and figurative distance...lol

I'm just bitter because "Fight Club" -- one of those flicks I'd always intended to get around to on DVD -- was ruined for me by some random post on some message board about five years after it came out.

LOL! So you're watching a HIGHLIGHT SHOW and complaining about the network showing the score? Here's a suggestion: Don't watch the highlight show. If you consider FSC amateurish for that reason, I'm sorry to disappoint you. YOU WOULD FIND SKY SPORTS NEWS worst! There's a ticker at the bottom showing the scores, and their highlight consist of telling you the score before showing the highlights and just for good measure showing the score on screen at the beginning of the highlight. So how's that for amateurism? Be careful what you wish for.

I hate it when they give away results before the games are played :p

I'm not sure why the original poster's complaint is so difficult to understand, though "sack the producers!" is a wee bit over the top.

The point about score tickers during the league highlights show isn't so much "how dare they!" It's more along the lines of "why would they?" It's one of those little things that doesn't have to be like that, and could easily be not-like-that. There's no cost to keeping the highlight drama intact for viewers -- so why not just do it? The show itself is certainly designed to convey that suspense, the way the segments are introduced and presented, complete with real match commentary. So revealing the scores, however minor that might be in the grand scheme of things, does undercut the program's intent.

The gain (maintaining suspense) outweighs the loss (turning off the ticker for 30 minutes). Does it outweigh it in some huge way? Of course not. But it does outweigh it -- so why not just do it?

I'm not wrong about this, but you can try arguing with me anyway if you'd like!

Dude, you waited five years to see Fight Club? You got what you deserved:):p:)

Though my reply to the OP was more about his suggestion that FSC just plug feeds of Sky Sports 24/7 (because supposedly Sky Sports doesn't do that), I will suggest that maybe they do it because:
1) most viewers don't care about the stickers or are not bothered by it (I know the only time I notice the scrolling thing at the bottom is when I want to look at some score or news).
2) most viewers watch highlight shows knowing the score or do not care if the score is shown before the highlight (ala Sky Sports) or after.
3) more viewers who welcome the ticker than viewers who think watching a highlight show is about building a suspense?

Trust me it takes an effort for your mind to focus on what is written on a scrolling sticker at the bottom of a show, when one's actually watching the action and claim to be into the suspense of the game.

Probably the wrong thread, since it has nothing to do with FSC, but I hate it when ESPN's delayed Champions League game (the second game, after the live one) shows the score of the match on the ticker.

You are watching it because they couldn't show two games live at once, but then they spoil it by showing you what the score of the game you are watching was! Now that's amateur!

I agree. And I have to say, the Sky Sports score Ticker (white text on red background) is much less obtrusive than their news ticker (black on white) or ESPN's ticker (white on black). I tend to notice their tickers more - especially during stoppages. I agree with an earlier poster that it wouldn't be hard to just not put the score of the EPL games on during the EPL review show, or for ESPN to put the score of the game they're currently showing on a 2 hour delay.

Now, if it's the next day, then all bets are off, but the same day ... I think you can make an argument that it's a bit much - if they care about the details of the fan experience.

Exactly, it's all about the fan experience. Of course you can watch the highlights of games and know the scores and want to see how the goals were scored, but there are many occasions when you could not get home in time to see the games and so wait for the highlight show (and in some of those cases not know the score) so all FSC has to do is NOT show the damn scores during the highlights. SIMPLE!!!

As for Sky Sports News, now you sound like an amateur. They are a 24 hour sports NEWS show. It is vital that they are up to date, so to show scores at any time is important. People watch SKY Sports to get the latest results and scores. NEWS!!!!

So God Bless the Sky Sports News ticker.

But scrap the FSC ticker. That is just some twat American trying to be clever.

Lastly, a distinction.

In England, highlights to us means to see a whole game cut down to a few minutes of the best action that portrays how the game was played plus the goals. Many of us grew up on the shows like Match of the Day and ITV's Sunday highlights The Big Game.

In the US, highlights just means showing the goals of the game or a best saves. It deals with seconds rather than minutes.

Sadly, in the UK we are following such trends and showing less action from each game, preferring to narrate over the action rather than have match commentary as it happened, and just show the goals. We get way too much introduction than the actual footage from the match. Plus they should always have views from both teams, and not cut away after one manager's best quote.
