When NYC secedes (or is booted) from the USA, who will play for our National Team? Let's assume that previous caps for other, lesser, nations wouldn't apply.
G: Bouna Condoul (Manhattan)
G: Jon Busch (Queens)
D: Mike Petke (LI)*
D: Chris Wingert (LI)*
D: Carlos Mendes (LI)*
D: Chris Aloisi (LI)*
M: Shalrie Joseph (Brooklyn)
M: Brian Mullan (LI)*
M: Edson Elcock (Brooklyn)
F: Gabriel Ferrari (Queens)
F: Edson Buddle (New Rochelle)**
All in all, that is a depressingly poor team for the greatest city in the world. But it would still probably be good enough to qualify for the World Cup out of CONCACAF. Especially with two GKs on the field at one time.
*NYC would obviously need some lebensraum so Long Island would have to be annexed.
*Yes, I know New Rochelle can't be called NYC under any definition, but it's damn close and I'd rather a have an alcohol-addled never-was at striker than John Wolyniec (SI).

When NYC gets booted, does that mean that all the illegals finally get amnesty? Because if that is the case then your list would get thrown out the window. I know a handful of players that unfortunately dont have status but would use those above mentioned players as traffic cones.
So in the end, I'm not so worried about our National Team's World Cup presense. Actually I'm waiting for our secession with open arms.

If you know players that could make Shalrie Joseph look like a traffic cone, then you should consider becoming their agents and introducing them to the myriad professional soccer teams in this country, who I am quite sure would love to meet them.
I do know what you're saying though. I've seen some players at Red Hook who should be professional at some level. The scouting in this country is still primarily ODP which is 99% suburban. I feel like there are thousands of Carlos Llamosas out there that never get access to our fancypants training and development as youngsters. I had hopes that Chivas USA would tap into that in LA, but they weren't nearly patient enough.
At any rate, I doubt your playground baller is ready for a national team if he can't play professionally at some level.

RB wanted his services but the player demanded that all his family be legalized. RB balked and he returned to Aviator Field, Flushing Meadows and assorted other fields all over the city.
I said he was good not smart! lol
When do we seceed? Soon I hope, maybe we can get this National Team going!

If we get booted and/or secede we should only take Long Island as a concession of some sort. The same goes for Westchester. Staten Island is an entirely different story altogether.
Unfortunately that doesn't leave much for a national team. Unless, of course, we start naturalizing residents!

That's what I'm talking about. After the secession, everyone residing within NYC would be legal per se.

Can we boot Staten Island to New Jersey and take Westchester County instead? It's pretty in the fall.
By the way, Bruce Arena for coach of the team.

If you think that SI will be 5th columnists then by all means kick them to the curb.
As far as Il Duece? I don't know I'm not completely sold on his skills. I say let's give Osorio a shot. Emigrated to Queens from Colombia, kids grew up here and seems to be the hot ticket right now.

Chris Armas? At least he can be a 4th mid.

What would our FIFA ranking be assuming NYC was recognized by FIFA?
Our 1st Division would be the Cosmopolitan Soccer League, I take it?
Would this team join the NYC 1st division?

Funny, your NYC+ team would get crushed by Team New Jersey, who would start Jozy Altidore (Livingston) and Giuseppe Rossi (Teaneck) at forward and Tim Howard (North Brunswick) in goal.

dude Rossi doesn't even consider himself an American. What would make you think he'd want to play for Jersey?

I kind of figured that when the first post talks about NYC seceding from the USA that we're in fantasy land. Especially when half your team isn't even from NYC, or even the USA in Joseph's case.

Fantasy, of course.
But Shalrie Joseph did go to Wingate High School in Flatbush, Brooklyn. He moved here when he was 15. He also starred in college at St. John's. He actually went to a MetroStars open tryout once, was asked to return the next day by the coaching staff, but couldn't afford, or couldn't be bothered to navigate the terrible commute to the Meadowlands, and skipped it. Imagine how different MLS would have been if RB had gotten Shalrie, arguably an all-time MLS Best XI player, instead of NE.
Altidore moved to Florida when he was 2, so Brooklyn's claim to Joseph is less tenuous than Jersey's to Altidore.

It would most likely be the best supported team in the league. Also probably one of the better ones at that.

Unfortunately NJ wouldn't have the balls to leave the union. Besides all those players would probably want NYC citizenship, who on earth would want a NJ passport?
hahhahahahahahaha

Apparently your namesake team would, being that they left NYC for New Jersey.

Being as they don't exist anymore, their return will see them in their rightful home! NYC

Just because he didn't play for the USA, doesn't mean he wouldn't play for NJ.
