3 games on the trot now for Insua I believe....

Is there any reason why this young lad should not be our first choice LB for the remainder of the season?

His performances so far have been satisfactory to say the least.

Would anyone prefer to start Aurelio or Dossena ahead of this guy?

Discuss...

Great young talent...one of the best in our current group of young prospects.

As another LFC board regular said a few weeks/months back, he reminds me of Philip Lahm. Compact, technically adept, tactically adept and balanced in defence and attack. He does need to catch up to Aurelio and Dossena offensively, and needs to work on his crossing and final balls...they were very poor vs Bolton however defensively he is looking sound and seems very tactically mature for such a young age.

My only problem at the moment, not with Insua, is that even when he makes a few poor clearances or poor choices with passing etc, he is let off, yet Aurelio and Dossena and also Keane etc are treated harshly and seen as flops. Just because someone comes with a price tag doesnt mean that they need to be pressured so highly.

Insua will be our future #1 LB and in the next few years, along with Dossena, will challenge for the LB spot.

This year he'll be rotated but I think next year he may make the position his.

I think Matt Clark pointed it out that its important that players like Insua are given time to develop and its important they are rotated in rather then put in becuase we dont need any liverppol players to think that they are weak or strong when left on the bench or on the pitch.Rafa wants everyone to work hard Kuyt stlyle lol and sooner rather then later will Insua make the LB place his.
I must say he is a very impressive solid player!

Yea I don't see Rafa throwing a young player like Insua into the mix as a starter this soon. I think he has featured because of Aurelio and Dossena's injuries and Dossena's poor form. Once they're both fit and ready to go they'll be back starting games. But he used his time well in the first team and gave Rafa plenty of reasons to contemplate him in the near future. He knows that he can cut it with the first team at a high level and I'm sure he knows that Emiliano is a special talent. I have confidence that he will act accordingly.

Insua also has good dribbling control and skills.

He can make one guy miss going up the wing and start a counter-attack.

That's why I thought that him and Riera worked well together, and they were very entertaining to watch.

He just needs to keep progressing. If Dossena progresses and settles like I think he will, we will have two very solid left backs.

I think after this season, or during next year's transfer window (Jan 2010) we will be saying good bye to Aurelio.

I like him alot. He's not as good defensely as Aurelio yet, but he is only 19 and has plenty of time to improve. The LB spot will be his by the end of the season.

I honestly don't think Aurelio, or any of our left backs are that great defensively. Aurelio was better than Riise, but that's not saying much.

All I know for certain is there needs to be songs created by the Kop for some of the new team members.

Riera and both El Zhar and Insua are without song, and if the latter two keep putting in solid performances they are going to need a song, or at least get their name chanted.

It's too early to judge Insua whether he would be our best..although he is bright and has got immense potential...lets wait until he gets some more run of games...Saw him at the U-17 World Cup & I was impressed already, plus some warm-ups at the beginning of the season.

I believe he's got it in him & he's at the right place to improve:)

would get him a game or 2 off - he looked a bit off today on D - but looked fun going forward

Had a couple of good games but he is still young and a bit inexperienced which showed a bit today. Developing nicely and will be a great choice at LB very soon.

Dossena is too slow for me. Very good attacking and getting in the crosses but with pacy wingers he struggles. When Dossena plays someone like Riera who tracks back well and is solid defensively will have to cover.

Aurelio is actually my preference at the moment but Insua is not far off.

That's what I have to keep reminding myself of when he plays. To be that good at 19 is very, very impressive, and I hope we can develop him into the league's top LB.

Insua has done very well but he is still 3rd choice. He does give us a good option as cover for Dossena and Aurelio, who seem to be the type who pick up slight injuries. Dossena is not popular but I feel he was playing much better in recent games. It is too soon to see whether Dossena will make the grade or not. Most foreigners take some time to adjust to English football although people can often forget that.

Aurelio has looked pretty good this season and people should remember that he is a Rafa-loyalist. Aurelio is also one of the few players at LFC who have won League titles (the others being Agger, Yossi and Skrtel). This could be important in the run-in.

Insua has not looked out of place in his Premiership appearances and if he continues to develop could cement himself as first-choice left back. I doubt this will happen before next season though. I am pleased with what I see from Insua so far though.

Not sure if this has been posted, but a bit of bad news:

Argentina: Batista Names South American U-20 Championship Squad
Argentina youth coach Sergio Batista has named his twenty man squad for the 2009 South American U-20 Championship, which kicks off on the 19th January in Venezuela.

Batista's side go into the tournament as one of the favourites, having been victorious in the same age category in five of the last seven World Cups, and will rely on a squad of primarily home based players for the competition.

The exceptions to this are Liverpool full-back Emiliano Insua, Almeria forward Pablo Piatti - both of whom were in the squad that won the 2007 World U-20 Championship - and Chelsea striker Franco di Santo - who was involved in the 2007 South American U-20 Championship.

Velez Sarsfield are the best represented club with four players, while the rest are a fairly even spread, with River Plate and Lanus the only other two sides to have more than one player included in Batista's selection.

Argentina will open their campaign against the host nation Venezuela on the 19th January, as they look to progress to the final group phase as one of the top three teams in a group that also includes Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Luis Ojeda (Unión de Santa Fe), Diego Rodriguez (Independiente)

Defenders: Fernando Meza (San Lorenzo), Mateo Musacchio (River Plate), Fernando Tobio (Vélez Sársfield), Julián Fernandez (Atlético Rafaela), Emiliano Insua (Liverpool), Maximiliano Oliva (Tigre)

Midfielders: Franco Zuculini (Racing Club), Exequiel Benavides (Boca Juniors), Marcelo Benitez (Lanús), Iván Bella (Vélez Sársfield), Pablo Piatti (Almería), Cristian Gaitan (Estudiantes de La Plata), Leandro Velazquez (Vélez Sársfield)

Forwards: Eduardo Salvio (Lanús), Franco Di Santo (Chelsea), Jonathan Cristaldo (Vélez Sársfield), Andrés Rios (River Plate), Andrés Romero (Argentinos Juniors)

For me, playing for a starting position in a top four club in a dominant league would be more important than a U-20 competition, but I don't think he has a choice.
