ULL NEVER WALK ALONE
26 Dec 2008, 11:40 PM
I love the premiership....it was just today we played Bolton and we now have to face Newcastle on Sunday....what a joy for all the supporters.
I expect Rafa will ring the changes, mascherano and babel will probably play and hopefully Torres will be back for this one,and Arbs is out for around 2 weeks so our line-up will most probably look like:-
-----------------Reina-------------------
-Carragher---Hyypia---Agger---Insua-----
--Kuyt---Mascherano----Gerrard---Babel--
------------------Keane------------------
-----------------------Torres-------------
Subs:Cavalieri,Darby,Dossena,Riera,Lucas,Ngog,El Zhar.

I am not sure on the fitness of Aurelio, Degen, Torres, or Skrtel. So I am going to go with a conservative guess at a lineup.
I think we will see...
--------------------Reina---------------------
Darby----Carragher----Agger------Dossena
Babel----Mascherano--Gerrard-------Riera
-------------Kuyt--------Keane---------------
Subs - Cavalieri, Hyypia, Insua, Lucas, Benayoun, Ngog, Torres
0-2. To the good.

In...and looking forward to an entertaining match.
Skrtel, Aurelio, Arbs are all injured and i also think that Dossena and Torres will not feature in this match through injury. If Dossena is fit, i fully expect him to come in for Insua as Rafa isnt one to over-work the youngsters. We dont want Insua to become like Aurelio, Kewell and Owen...another young star overplayed at a young age.
What i think we will see...
Reina
Carra Hyypia Agger Insua
Masch Xabi
Kuyt Gerrard Riera
Keane
Subs: Cavalieri, Darby, Lucas, Yossi, El Zhar, Babel, Ngog
Newcastle have lost 3 out of their now settled back 4 (Beye, Bassong and Jose Enrique) with only Coloccini left standing after the match vs Wigan. Bassong was red carded and the other two are injured. Unlucky for Newcastle, but this might be a great opportunity to take advantage of them having a completely new set of defenders in.
Newcastle's most likely line-up
Given
Taylor Coloccini Edgar N'Zogbia
Jonas Guthrie Butt Duff
Viduka Owen
Subs: Harper, Cacapa, Kadar, Geremi, Xisco, Carroll, Martins??
What id like to see vs Newcastle...
Reina
Carra Hyypia Agger Insua
Yossi Masch Gerrard Riera
Kuyt Keane
Subs: Cavalieri, Darby, Alonso, Lucas, El Zhar, Babel, Ngog

this is what I expect to see except it is a possibility that Torres plays as a sub. If he doesn't, then of course its likely he won't play until January 10 as I don't think he'd be wasted against North End

Subscribing!
A most excellent back 4 last week, Carra's passing was pinpoint, he went forward well, even to trying a shot or two. Sammi was all over the pitch, everytime a Stoke attack came in, (3 times :) Sammi and that shock of blond hair was right there. He looked good going forward as well, he's about due for another goal from a corner. Danny was solid and getting back to his norm. I believe Insua has been mentioned once or twice lately.
Looking forward to seeing 'Hamstring Michael' playing. You remember him, the guy that left us to seek fame and fortune with Real............ and Newcastle!!!
Wonder if Pennant will end up with Newcastle, next season.

New to the forum guys so this is my first contribution. My lineup would be:
Reina
Jammie, Hyypia, Agger, Insua
Yossi, Alonso, Stevie, Riera
Robbie, Kuyt
Subs: Masch, Ngog, ElZhar, Torres, Babel, Lucas
Our back four is solid right now and doing a fantastic job. All of them look good going forward Carragher and Sami played excelent through balls against Bolton. Anxiously looking forward to the game and hoping for 3 points.

Newcastle will have to field a patched-up side after a costly defeat against Wigan on Friday.
Jose Enrique damaged a calf in the warm-up, Mark Viduka tore a muscle, Habib Beye has a suspected fracture and Sebastien Bassong was sent off.
Javier Mascherano sat out Liverpool's Boxing Day win over Bolton, but is expected to start at Newcastle.
Alvaro Arbeloa is still sidelined with a hamstring injury, but Fernando Torres could return as a substitute.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Newcastle (from): Given, Coloccini, Gutierrez, Butt, Guthrie, N'Zogbia, Duff, Owen, Harper, Taylor, Geremi, Edgar, Xisco, Carroll, Ameobi, LuaLua, Gonzalez.
Liverpool (from): Reina, Carragher, Agger, Hyypia, Insua, Alonso, Mascherano, Kuyt, Gerrard, Keane, Cavalieri, Darby, Babel, Benayoun, Lucas, Ngog, El Zhar, Torres.

I would expect Masch to be back in the team and Xabi to get a rest. When will Rafa give El Zhar a chance to start? He has been in better form than Babel, so maybe Nabil gets to play on one of the wings.

Yea I don't know why so many people think Masch won't play after being rested against Bolton. I see him as a definite starter in this game.
I also don't think its time to play Torres yet. Again, there is no need to rush him back, we have a perfectly capable team to beat Newcastle. He might be on the bench but I don't think we'll need him, at least not if we play to our ability.

just put in Kuyt where Babel is, and furthering my belief that Babel is done here.....so sad.

I also wanted to see Babel given the chance to start but it has not happened and the likelihood is slim. Babel has not looked very impressive recently; confidence and morale can be an issue, not receiving starts although performances merit. Babel and Riera are a straight swap but Riera gets the edge because he offers better defensive coverage on the wing. Having said all of that there is no reason he can't feature in the usual 4-2-3-1 when both Alonso and Masch are playing.
Thanks for the welcome USSCOUSE. That is the same 4-4-2 formation and lineup we used on Friday and it was very effective.
Guys if we play the 4-4-2 my preference would be Alonso to Masch because Alonso is just as solid holding but better passing and going forward.

I actually think that Riera is also the better offensive winger in that he is likely to stay outside and put in a cross vs. Babel and his guaranteed cut inside. And then there's the issue of ball control.......
oh - and for disclosure - I love the idea of Babel and what he could be - so I hope it works

Riera is so much better an option offensively that the only reason Babel would ever get a start over him on the left is because Albert needs a rest. That could very well be the case tomorrow. Has nothing to do with defensive cover; Riera is probably the best newcomer to the EPL this year and has really provided us with a great player on the left. He's so good at keeping the ball and gives us genuine width, as well as great crossing ability.
Babel provides us with, um, another Dutch player on the field? The guy is out of his head at the moment and is essentially useless. As pointed out upthread, El-Zhar is a lot better option, at least at the moment. Personally, I would really like to see Nabil rewarded with a full 90; the guy is a very tricky player who's contributed to a lot of goals in limited minutes. I guess Rafa's trying to keep him hungry or something, but I don't see why he hasn't gotten a start, especially against competition that he's fully capable of playing against.
Really hoping that Robbie can keep it up. I'd rather we give Torres a full rest and recovery. We shouldn't need him in this one and it would be great to finally nip this nagging hammy in the bud, once and for all. Another two weeks' rest and have the world's best striker ready to knock 'em in until late May.
Come on you Reds.

I fully agree with this. He also has recently shown he can get a goal from distance and in the mixer. Plus he's not a small man either so he holds the ball very well. He is deceptively slow, that is, he moves deliberately yet he doesn't lose the ball under close marking even by two or more players.
