Not that any of this is new news, but:

Bobby Convey,
Doug Warren,
David Stokes,
Brian Carroll, and
Alecko Eskandarian

have all been called into the U23 camp (http://espn.go.com/oly/news/2003/1230/1697017.html)

Note: Santino Quaranta is not in the camp, diservingly so.

It is good to read that a handful of DC United players were called.

It is sad that Santino was not called. So much talent...

Thanks for the link TCompton.

At the end of the 2001 season, I would have said - in fact, I did say - that Santino was practically a lock to make the Olympic team.

Two years later, and he has yet to be called into one of the 10 U23 camps Mooch Myernick has had since the first one in January of 02 and has virtually no chance to make this team.

The sad thing is that, like a lot of us, I get the feeling that people on this board and throughout the US Soccer community or more disapointed about this than Santino is.

BTW, no Freddy in the U23 team - interesting.

(Though Mooch will be able to watch him with the 20s as they'll all be in Carson and the 23s will likely scrimmage the 20s.)

Sandon,

Is Santino with U20s?

Midfielders: DaMarcus Beasley, Kyle Beckerman, Brian Carroll, Ricardo Clark, Bobby Convey, Brad Davis, Eddie Gaven, Kyle Martino, Logan Pause.

A very solid midfield. 5 or 6 MLS starters?

I was thinking how stacked we are at forward...

Buddle
Casey
Donovan
Johnson

Yow. And I don't mean Debbie.

I'm not sure if this should be a surprise. Even Freddy thinks that he needs to perform well during the start of the MLS season in order to make it onto the U23 squad for the Olympics (I tried to find a link to the article that I read that in, but I had no luck.)

Sandon,

Is Santino with U20s? No. He is too old for the next U20 cycle, which is for kids born in 85-86 (+ Freddy).

Santino's U20 career ended when the US lost to Argentina a couple weeks ago.

The only youth national team he is age-elgible for is the U23 team - and we've already covered where he stands with that team - and after the Olympics in August he won't be eligible for that.

I did not know that, thanks for the information.
