dribble a basketball and try to do tricks with it.

Throw a tennis ball or raquet ball against a wall and try to catch it one handed.

Juggle a soccer ball with your fists, then with your palms over your head.

for the initial question i would answer, JUGGLE.

The number one thing for ball control is juggling IMO.

Try Coerver exercises. You can do most of them by yourself. And they're more effective than juggling, IMO. Juggling is good for touch, but it's not everything.

Juggling with either fo0t developes collection skills and great touch, but only if you vary the pace and height. Force yourself to go to higher numbers(20-off the feet in-a-row, then off the knees for three, back to feet, etc)
USE A WALL! A garage door will do, or if you can find a raquetball court, take your soccer ball and bounce it off the walls, collect it, clean it up and POW it back off the laces; repeat with instep, inside, outside of foot, either foot. Do 10 groups of 100, ( or even 10 groups of ten on an outside wall that you attack) and you will definitely improve!

Coerver's are footskill routines. DRIBBLE DRIBBLE DRIBBLE. Make up routines by imagining a set of defenders that you want to go thru. Then repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, forever!!!!

The Coerver moves are very effective. I do those with my club and when you do them for several weeks and then you play one on one with someone before, you notice a big difference. It's not even the fact that you can do the moves, but it's that you feel comforotable with the ball at all parts of your feet on both feet.
