will it be Barcelona the current champs or will it be CSKA Moscow,Pamesa Valencia or maybe the Final 4 hosts and 2001 cup winners the one and only Maccabi Del Tel-Aviv

currently there are 3 groups of 8 teams each which the top 5 from each group and the 6th with the best record will advance to the 2nd stage(4 groups with 4 clubs each which the winner of each group will advance to the FINAL FOUR in Tel-Aviv(hopefully)

Thank you for creating this thread. Euro basketball is of pretty good quality but it’s terribly run. The format itself is absurd. All those group games and then it’s all decided in a couple of games in the final four.
I actually stopped following basketball 3-4 years ago when the clubs split from FIBA and we had two European champions in one year. I might be coming back now as it seems ULEB has won the battle and all the top teams are in their competition. Despite that FIBA continues to hold it’s charade competition.

thank you for replying for the moment i thought no1 will but i created this thread coz i thought our beloved american mates actually LIKE basketball :(

the level of play in the EuroLeague is the best besides the NBA off course however FIBA and ULEB have made a mess in this and it's not organized as good as UEFA CL for example and it's a great shame but i still thank both for allowing Israeli clubs and NT to host european counterparts in israel unlike the UEFA scum

Maccabi actually were the last to win the original FIBA european cup in 2001 beating their archrivals Panathinaikos of Athens 81-67 in Paris with 9,000 Loyal Maccabeans celebrating in the Sanz Elize

Sorry, but I have no interest in basketball. I'm sure others here do, but you might need to explain the structure of European basketball.

Y&B, could you tell mel what’s the qualification process for the Euroleague? When it was under FIBA it was just like football CL. Now I think some teams have guaranteed contracts for 2-3-4 years. Do you know the details?

Any good websites? I want to track some overseas players who were drafted by NBA teams. Nenad Kristic being one example.

Right now, I'm getting all my info from ESPN's Chad Ford, who has already listed some probable NBA draft candidates.

once it was like the UEFA CL in soccer but since ULEB were establish it came to this that some clubs can relegate from their domestic leagues and still participate in the european top competition-the EUROLEAGUE
it sucks but that's how it works but still all the top clubs are playing in ULEB's Euroleague

www.euroleague.net ( the official site) and for general information about the european prospects, www.eurobasket.com is the best one around.

CSKA Moscow arrived this morning to Tel-Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport. Damn, I am scared. They looked real pumped and serious. I hope we show Victor Alexander, ex-Maccabian, that we run this group.

Is Deon Thomas going to play? Last I heard is that he can play because he received his Israeli citizenship.

definitly a huge dissapointment

Anthony Parker was great but we blew out a 19 points lead to lose

i'll tell you why we didn't win

Derek Sharp has missed 4 throws from the 3 wide open

dammit  now we'll have to win at Moscow and it's not going to be easy by any means

I think he actually only missed three 3 pointers. Vujcic and Parker were great, I wish Jasikevicius could have shot better from the field. I was disappointed with Parker in the last minute for missing that dunk that caused us to lose.

I didn't get to watch that much of the match, the UEFA Cup match between Maccabi Haifa and Valencia was on at almost the exact same time. I kept flipping from Channel 2 to Channel 11, I think my Yes! box got messed. I did catch J.R. Holden's three pointer, that really ruined my night. Maybe that is why I am up at 5:53 in the morning here.

Next EuroLeague match for Maccabi is against Montepaschi Sienna on December 18th, away.
