There some bright Americans in this world. It seems, however, that there are some who not quite at that level. These are some responses in a Canadian TV special called "Talking to Americans"
-------------------------------------------------------
10) In Chicago: "Congratulations Canada on having running water in all five states."
9) In Washington, D.C.: "Congratulations Canada on your first national railroad."
8) In Washington, D.C.: "Congratulations Canada on 268 consecutive days of snow."
7) At Harvard: "Yes, I believe the seal slaughter should be stopped in Saskatchewan."
6) In Chicago: "Congratulations Canada on making Beaver Balls your national dish."
5) At Mount Rushmore: "Congratulations Canada, our Eskimo neighbours to the South, on your new Mount Mulroneyuk."
4) Governor of Arkansas: "Congratulations Canada on preserving your national igloo."
3) In New York: "Yes, I think Jean Chretien-Pinochet should be charged with crimes against humanity."
2) In New York: "Yes, I think it is time to bomb Gilles Duceppe."
1) Texas Governor George W. Bush: I'm glad to have the support of Prime Minister Jean 'Poutine.'

I guess this is a North American thing.
How does frozen water run, eh?
Oh yeah. Since GoyleD can never get anything right, this thread title should be changed to How much do Americans know about Canada.

I got one for you:
"Soccer in Canada has overtaken hockey as the national sport."
(oops, you said that one. I forgot, it's only supposed to be Americans who are ignorant)

The statement that Hockey was "Canada's national sport" was done by politicans. There is a lot of resistance to that notion.

Jerry Spring was so big headed he thought they had made a springer day in Canada . oh how i laugh. be great if they would show that program over here. it would be a guarenteed success.

Well, let's see one in five Americans are minors.
or maybe
One in five Americans don't have English as their first language.
There are lies, damn lies and statistics.

I don't know how this would affect whether you know the capital of the country you're living in.
But I do get your overall point.

The George W. Bush one is understandable because we all know he's an idiot. But the Al Gore one was unexpected!

How much do Foreigners know about America?
True, there are a lot of Americans who make a fool of themselves in the world wide scheme of things, but they do not represent all of us. I refer to them as "Idiot Americans". My father is in the military and we've moved or visited just about everywhere. My mother is Asian and grew up in poverty in Korea. I know a lot more about the world and how to act in other customs then some americans, but a lot of us act the same way as me. These Americans that go "What state is Germany in?" or "If it ain't American made, it sucks" are imbeciles and should just be totally ignored.

"Canada" on the American consciousness is somewhere between toe jam and dingle berries.

And yet you are when sentences like that are uttered.
Incidentally, who was it aimed at?
