Nick Webster today announced the result of Charlton vs Chelsea in the beginning of ManU vs Everton match. Since I planned on watching that game on foxsportsworld at 1pm, that totally spoiled the result for me.

The commentator during the game also announced the scores. I have written an email to sky to telll them to shut the hell up too.

FSW is actually a lot better than ESPN. I am in Hong Kong now and watched the ManU game yesterday on ESPN. They showed the results of all the other matches, including those that were in progress. At half time, they also showed a lot more highlight than the one- or two-match highlight that FSW normally shows.

It's not a big deal if I know it's coming. If they announce they are going to show highlights at half time, I just switch to another channel.

I dont know why you are emailing Sky... they have nothing to do with it...

TWI produces the feed... and actually they are very good about not broadcasting scores on a game that is being telecast by them. If the game was going on at the same time you would not have heard them mention that match, but there telecast was the second fixture of the day...so they assumed you watched the first game.

Considering that the Charlton/Chelsea match was on live at 7:30 am there is no reason to hide the result even if it's being replayed at 1 pm..

Really, you folks need to learn to deal with spoiled results.

No way dude. 7:30 am is pretty freaking early, especially for boxing day when a lot of people are still hung over.

How to watch the EPL in Hong Kong 101:

1) turn down the volume, at least make sure you do not hear the commentaries exept the crowd noise

2) use a masking tape to tape the lower part (about 1" horizontal) of the screen, thus screening out all the score updates.

3) Absolutely fast forward the half-time show. If you watch it live. Turn off the TV during half-time.

4) Absolutely avoid John Dykes when the game ends, i.e. turn it off when you hear the final whistle, because he'll tell you "Arsenal is now on top of the table", or something like that...

That's how you can watch Man U x Everton without knowing the Arsenal x Wolves results.

For those not in Hong Kong: Man U x Everton is on ESPN Asia, Arsenal x Wolves is on Star Sports, SIMULTANEOUSLY. If you subscribe to cable, they'll give you a cable descrambler. One cable decoder can only give you one game at a time. The only way is to watch one live and another one on tape delay.

CBS sucks. On Sunday I was watching the Green Bay - Denver game and they kept giving updates on the Minnesota - Arizona game. The bastards!

CBS perpetrated the all-time worst spoiler:

During the Winter Olympics (IIRC, 1998):

" Tune in tonight to see American Tommy Moe win the Olympic Downhill ! "

I can't remember being more angry in my life...

Get this, 1980 Winter Olympics:

The USA-Soviet Union hockey game was shown on tape delay in prime time on ABC. Between the 2nd and 3rd periods of the tape-delayed broadcast, with the USA trailing the Soviets 3-2, a local Detroit TV anchorman (Bill Bonds) does a short news update and ANNOUNCES THAT THE US HAS UPSET THE SOVIETS IN HOCKEY. The station was deluged with calls from angry fans calling for his head. Luckily, I had seen the game live from a Canadian tv station but lots of Detroiters had the spontaneity of one of the most wonderful moments in sports history ruined for them.

I remember at the beginning of one of the World Cups (France 98?) ESPN2 used to show a game tape delayed in the afternoon, and without fail the score of the tape-delayed game they were showing would scroll across the "Bottom Line."

Wait, wait, wait.

You mean people actually report news AFTER IT HAPPENS????????????????? I want to thank ya'll for making me feel a whole lot better about everything in my life.

I was at a public event during the US-USSR game and they announced the result. I had a tape running at home, but will never forget the spontaneous celebrations. I watched an incredibly intense high school wrestling tournament stop at the sound of the news and saw guys who were in the middle of wrestling each other stop and cheer together.

I was *#*#*#*#ing 12 years old and dealt with knowing the result when I watched the tape that night. When I take over the world, results of tape-delayed games will be broadcast publicly in town squares.

Take a moment and think of where the term "spoiler" comes from.

My oddest soccer spoiler: Last year's World Cup (oops, make that the World Cup from the year before last). My wife and I are sitting in the Grandview Diner in Galesburg Illinois. It's Sunday morning. We're looking forward to watching the tape delayed final on ABC later that day. The radio is tuned to the local country station. One song ends. The announcer comes on and says that Brazil beat Germany "two to nothing" in the World Cup championship match. The next song comes on.

I assumed I would be safe from soccer spoilers in a west-central Illinois greasy spoon. Maybe the fact that I wasn't is another sign of soccer's increasing acceptance in the ol' USA.

Back to communicating with people who have some sense, FSW does a very poor job of concealing results. This past week during the Arsenal game they showed results of every league game that had already been played. These results were not Sky Sports graphics; they were Fox graphics. They did this even though two of these games were to be shown later in the week. That was STUPID. From a marketing perspective, they cost themselves a large amount of veiwers who would otherwise have watched the feed of the game to find out the score.

In 1998 a friend of mine had a business outing the day of the World Cup final. He taped the game and carefully avoided any contact with TV or radio that day. The moment he walked into his apartment, his fool roommate asked: "Can you believe France won three nothing!?!?"

Few things in life are as dull as watching a soccer game when you know the result. One would think "America's Soccer Channel" would understand the importance of hiding the outcome of games they intend to show later in the week.

FSW is a great resource at times, but they do a lot of things wrong. Why, for example, do they continue to show the same two games for a week? Is it that cost prohibitive to broadcast some other contest several days after it was played? And why can't they figure out their broadcasts more than a couple days in advance? The Direct TV info box has TBD up there all the time, SoccerTV.com only goes a day into the future, and the FSW site is jampacked with spoilers that make it almost impossible to find their schedule without also eliminating the reason for the search.

But really, we should just get used to spoilers.

This reminding me of that Seinfield episode where the score of the Yankees or was it Mets game was spoiled. Jerry got it taped and told everyone not to say anything, but someone did, totally ruined it for him.

anyway, I agree, soccer (or any sport for that matter) is not the same if the score is spoiled.
