Before this debate dies off, I'd just like to say that Pato plays in a league where the defences are known for being tough as nails and the irony is that sometimes he just runs rings around them.

Anyways, what are the chances of watching Gerbhart play on Tuesday?

Slim to none?

Yah, I don't expect him to play. He may start the odd game this Rueckrunde but i'll be surprised if he becomes a solid member of the first 11 in the rest of this season.

He's already quite good, but we've bought him more as one for the future. At least that's the way i've interpreted it.

Can the civilians exit the bomb shelters now?

By the way, why is Kaiserslautern specifically your least favourite side?

Just curious. :)

With the sorry central midfield play you guys have gotten this season, I'd give him a shot.

I only intend to discuss VfB from here on out.

I'm sorry I helped subject you guys to that BS.

Hitzlsperger and had started to regain his form before the break and everyone knows what kind of run Khedira was on. He's not playing ahead of them.

Dude, I said "give him a shot...." That only means a fair chance.

Sorry that I wasn't clear. And of course, your comments are correct.

He'll get his chance, as in he can work his way into contention for sub minutes, but he's nineteen and just joined the team, so he probably won't play in this match.

There's our disconnect. I was referring to the rest of the season, not just the match against Bayern.

I'm just glad that the Winterpause is coming to an end and we'll finally have more meaningful games again to enjoy. I'm hopeful that we'll see the good momentum we gained before the break continue into the Ruckrunde. We really need to capture some confidence and some wins if we're going to move back into contention for Uefa Cup spots.

Did somebody on here a while back say that the DFB or somebody was considering shortening the Winter pause in the future, or was that just wishful thinking?

As far as I know, that's a done deal, as it it will be shorter next year.

Cacu has been ruled out for tomorrow's game due to some kidney infection. The good news is that Marica has gonna fit much quicker than first expected and he'll probably be able to come into the side tomorrow instead of Cacau.

Here's how i'd line up:
-----------------Lehmann
Osorio----Boulahrouz----Tasci--------Boka
----------Khedira------Hitzlsperger-----
Hilbert------------------------------Simak
-----------Gomez---------Marica

Well, in defence i'd leave Delpierre on the bench for this one. My reasoning: even though he and Tasci form a very strong partnership, both had injury issues over the winter and Boulahrouz as the one who got the most playing time over xmas so he should start for this one I think, and Tasci got fitter quicker than Delpierre so he should partner him. I believe Boka is fit in time so i'd go with at left back. Traesch could be an outsiders choice.

As Rainer said last page, Khedira and Hitz are givens in central midfield, no doubt over them. On the wings there's more of a debate. I'd go with Hilbert and Simak, but then Lanig player a good break, Basturk is fit again, and we can't forget about Elson, and Gebhart the new buy. So a lot of options.

In attack with Cacau out, Marica should start alongside Mario.

Unless we played with one striker and perhaps and attacking midfielder in midfield? I dunno. Just an idea.

I can't wait for this game.

It'll be halved next season. :)

-----------------Lehmann
Osorio-----Boulahrouz----Tasci----Träsch

Khedira-------Hitze
Hilbert Simak

Gomez-----Schieber

I think this will be the starting lineup. But both Delpierre, Lanig and also Boka may start the game. I hope Gebhardt will be playing but it seems that he will be out for this one. I also wish that Funk, Rudy will get there share off bundesliga minutes this season. I like the young players a lot.

Chosing the midfield formation really is difficult...does anyone know what system Babbel has been using in the test matches? Did he play with two 6's or with the midfield diamond?

In any way, I really hope that we'll get rid of Bastürk after this season. He's a good player and all, but him being on the team just seems to be entirely pointless...

Anyway, if we play with two 6's, then I guess the spot on the right side will be down to either Hilbert or Elson while the spot on the left will be down to Simak, Lanig, Bastürk or Gebhard.

I think that Elson might actually have a good chance after his fantastic goal in the last match. On the left it's also pretty open. Simak seems to be the favorite, but who knows...

I'm for Lanig on the left and Hilbert on the right. Lanig was turning in some pretty good performances before the break, but it wouldn't surprise to see Simak out there instead. Hilbert just because I don't know that there is as much competition for that spot as we would like. He has to find a bit of form at some point. He's too good a player not to. Why not for this match? ;)

Well my reasoning for that is actually part of why I support Bayern. I travelled to Germany with my parents when i was around the age of 12 or 13 and went to my first and only live Bayern game and that match was against Kaiserslautern.
I don't really hate them but from them on a Bayern-Kaiserslautern fixture for me was always something to look forward to. Gotta have someone to hate anyways, no? :D

Btw, not like Bayern played beautiful footy back then, but Kaiserslautern played absolutely shit football. Dunno about now.

I don't know that the deal was done, but there will be a shorter winter break next season anyhow as next year is a World Cup year.

Time has really flown since 2006, hasn't it???
