WHat is the story with the youth coach controversy?

You mean Adrion and the Germany U-21?

I don't know much. Just that it seems VfB Stuttgart II coach Rainer Adrion was one of the DFB's leading candidates to replace Dieter Eilts as Germany U-21 coach.

VfB refused to release him for consideration.

That's all I know.

yeah, that's the story. didn't they want to do something with Adrion in exchange for Babbel getting an extension on getting his license?

Martin Lanig: 12 BL games, 7 as starter, 3 goals, 1 assist (3.64)
6 Uefa games, 5 as starter (3.80)
2 Pokal games, 1 goal (4.00)

He's had an unspectacular but solid first 6 months with VfB. Only started 7 games, but has played some part in the majority of matches. He's shown he's got a number of talents: heading, shooting in particular. No surprise he's already scored 4 goals for VfB. However he isn't quite creative enough in setting up attacks in my book, and als has to improve in other aspects. I don't think he's as good as Hilbert, Hitzlsperger or Khedira so it'll always be hard for him to become a regular in the first side. But he's been a solid member of the squad, and will hopefully continue to develop different aspects of his game.

Martin isn't a playmaker like Bastürk & Simak and also no winger like Hilbert (I really wondered to see him on the wing sometimes). He's the typical "Nr. 8" like Michael Ballack with the same strength (good technique, good header & shooting quality, ability to score goals & pretty strong in duels) and weakness (no pace on the first meters & often phlegmatic).

Btw: I can't believe you paid 1 million more for Gebhardt than for Hilbert & Lanig together. Is that just the "bonus" effect of the U19 national team European Championship title (Hilbert was U21 national player and pretty young as well)?

Regarding Adrion: Germany wanted him for the U21, no surprise as he's done a great job with our amateurs, helping to develop many present stars such as Gomez, Khedira and Tasci, and has kept VfB II one of the best youth sides in Germany. He's really a good coach and i've suggested on numerous occasions that he could coach the first team, though that's never likely to happen. Anyway, no surprise Germany wanted him. And no surprise they got rejected, since there's no reason for us to let Adrion go.

Regarding Gebhart's price:
Yes it is very expensive, but I guess that's what you have to do when sides like Bremen and Dortmund are in the running as well. Let's just hope it pays off.

Wasn't Hilbert's rep mostly made after moving to Stuttgart?

A little bribery scandal? Considering that VfB seems to do a great job of developing young players who are impactful on the first team, I'd much rather hang on to Adrion if he is the one primarily responsible for this success. Babbel is hot right now, but shouldn't we seem how the ruckrunde goes before doing anything to get him to continue coaching this team past May?

What are the projecections on how long it would take him to get his license anyways? I'm wondering if this is something where he could have his license in a years time or if it takes longer.

i see our U-19's are in the same group as Vfb Stuttgart in the Mercedes Benz Junior Cup.

Group B also consists of Borussia Dortmund, Dinamo Zagreb and CF America.

will it be televised in any form(highlights possibly)...?

Happy New Year to you Uwe and all the rest of you!

Uwe, 1860 had to sell Gebhart for at least 3M to ensure they can get a license for next season.

I think Heldt (a former 1860 player) helped them out a little bit...... ;)

I've looked for it, and I haven't found anything as well...so I don't think it'll be televised anywhere...

The team had a Laktatest yesterday, dunno what the English word is but it's just a type of fitness test.

Anyway, the player who got the highest score in it was... Lehmann

Not a big surprise: Pardo's move home to Mexico is now officially official:

No surprise. It was the same when he was at BVB too. He's always in fantastic shape.

Its a shame 1860 had to sell yet another good talent to pay the bills/debt Wildmoser got us into. But Gebhart will do well for VfB. Just break him of his recent habit of falling down everythime he takes a shove....a bit irritating. Not sure if he will see first team action this year or not, but he is very surprising when he wants to be.

Fischer has been loaned to Koblenz for the rest of the season. Could be a good move for everyone involved. They need goals, so he is likely to play there.

Yes, that's a good move:

1. It gives him practice in the 2. Liga, and it'll be a good test to see whether he can start netting the goals there.
2. If he does well, I couldn't see Koblenz being the sort of team he'd want to make a permanent move to, so we'd not have to worry about getting him back if we want him.

Good luck!

Yeah, none of the reports say anything about their having an option to buy him, so it looks like a move purely intended to get him some more playing time. I'll have to try to catch a Koblenz match or two now. I have still never seen him play.

I'm wondering if Koblenz will play him instead of Matt Taylor or with Matt Taylor........
