Why in the world, of all the confederations outside of Oceania, is our championship such a joke? I mean shouldn't we really restructure the entire group and try to include more teams from OUR region and forgo the guest appearances made by other confedereation's countries?

It just sickens the imagination that because, typically, the US and Mexico are the ones fighting out for the regional crown they are exempt from qualifying and then are drawn into ridiculously one-sided groups that guarantee they won't meet until after the group stages...the entire thing lacks drama...

Of course I could be bitching in vain, and perhaps the other teams in the region outside of Honduras and Costa Rica need to be able to pose a credible threat to either the US or Mexico..but still...

Past 3 Champions:

2003 Mexico over Brazil
2002 USA over Costa Rica
2000 Canada over Colombia

3 different winners, 6 different finalists...no diversity there at all eh...

Who considers the Gold Cup a joke? Other than managers of European clubs, I mean.

Some parts of the Gold Cup are a joke. The one that angers me the most is the 4 groups of 3. Every tournament it seems like theres at least one group that has to be decided by a coin toss. This would RARELY happen if they moved to a 3 groups of 4 format, but I suppose that would make far too much sense.

I think a lot of people would like to see the Gold Cup hosted by other countries in the region. I'm not sure how viable this is considering that the US is so diverse in its population it can usually draw fans of every country to the games, meaning more money for Jack and CONCACAF. Co-hosting with Mexico wasn't a terrible idea, but would people show up if it wasn't Mexico or Brazil playing?

I'd like to see Canada or Costa Rica/Honduras or Jamaica host. I think they could do it, but the attendance at most games would be worse than some of the games at this years Gold Cup. (Think Costa Rica-Canada, Costa Rica-Cuba, Canada-Cuba in New England).

But I'd say that in terms of the way things are run and the way this tournament is run, the world should view our Confederation only slightly ahead the OFC, and miles behind UEFA, CONMEBOL, CAF, and AFC.
