GK Cronin was the only other US player. Congrats to Bobby!

He just isn't ready to play in the middle for United.

And he's not enough of an impact player for the HO (Home Office) to give him a work permit.

Maybe that guy who coaches the U-20s can get the best out of Bobby at DCU. Has he been interviewed? I wonder if he's ever coached in MLS before.........

Heck, he's a proven winner ... No kidding. How many guys who have won an MLS Cup are available? Just the one, I believe. He at least deserves an interview.

Thomas Rongen is just as much a proven loser as a proven winner. Anyway, I was led to believe he'd made it clear at some point that he wasn't interested in the job.

Convey had an excellent tournament and I'm glad he got his props. Hopefully this will help him to have a great MLS season, or perhaps open the door to another good opportunity in Europe. Either way, I hope he builds on the confidence he must have gotten from the U-20 WC and turns it into something solid for the full NT...

He plays Convey in the middle, starts Adu, and benches Quaranta. Hell, he's got my vote!

Why would someone have even asked Rongen, "are you interested in a job you were fired from just two years ago?" What's next? Asking Dir why he didn't apply for the Dallas job when Jefferies was fired? ;)

From the matches I watched and from what I read, Bobby deserved this award. I really hope that he still has same aggressiveness and desire to prove the Home Office wrong. However, based on Bobby's performance with DC United over the season, I didn't so much disagree with the Home Office as I was disappointed with their decision.
To be honest, this was the type of performance I wanted to see from Santino Quaranta. While I had a good idea what Bobby was capable of, I want to see Santino exceed my expectations of him. Unfortunately, he displayed no more passion or skill than I've seen of him over the past two year. While he's in a United uniform I will still want to see him succeed, but my patience for his improvement is running out.

Actually, he can't go back for a year but by then I'm sure arena will have gotten him enough USMT games to make the approval automatic. Remember this summer he didn't qualify because while he'd played every game for the Nats in 2003 he had not played much at all in 2002. I suspect the numbers will be real different by this summer. That's why I wouldn't bank on Convey being around all through our season.

I guess you never heard of Billy Martin.

Even if Payne did want to rehire the guy, he's got nearly half the league under his control, so there's no use foisting Rongen on a fan base he's already alienated.
