... as we 'celebrate' the impending nine-figure investment in replacing the financially adequate and culturally iconic white hart lane ...
... we are currently one point off the drop.
cheers.

yes, but only 2 points from the top half - with newcastle, fulham, west brom, wigan, portsmouth, stoke, and bolton on the horizon :)

I'm 1 pint from being wasted.
On a Monday.
We're undefeated against the top 4 after 1 run, and yes our form needs to improve greatly against the lesser teams, but I have confidence.
And Guinness.
Lots of Guinness.

Pook, you're starting to scare me ... it seems you're channelling Colm's pessimistic views of the future. :D

14 or more points would be nice out of that.

I think 14 from those games is a realistic goal. With that haul at that point in the season, top 10 is probable and top 8 is not out of the question.

it's not that i'm really pessimistic, tron. i'm very confident that we'll be safe this season. but the point is that, given our present situation, no matter how confident i/we may be, going down is still a very real possibility. and depending upon how much capital we will have committed to the new stadium, going down could jeopardize the club's very existence.
now, i'm not the kind that is inclined to dread relegation. during ramos's last days, as going down was looking increasingly possible, i wasn't really mortified. i'd follow spurs in the championship as enthusiastically as i do in the prem. hell, i love the championship, and attend 2'nd flight matches over EPL matches at least two-to-one. not that i woulnd't've been upset, of course; but i wouldn't have been horrified. i can live with spurs in any division - but i can't live without spurs*. i'm just saying that once we turn the dirt on the new stadium, the 'mortifying' fear of relegation will be very real.
and not just this season. ok, the odds of us being in this predicament next december are remote. and, again, i'm not inclined to dread it, in and of itself. but where we sit right now should stand as a stark reminder that we are not too big to go down. not now, and certainly not when we'll be cash-strapped by our big project. and if we do go down, and we're too far along with 'naming rights stadium', THFC be well and truly ********ed.
i've said over and over that arsenal were/are rolling the dice when they built their new place, despite however savvy their moneymen might be. granted, it'll probably all work out for them, but they've still taken a bigger chance than i think most are willing to admit. we, on the other hand, are taking an even bigger one. i just don't think most fans consider what could go wrong. and when i think about it, not even the accomplished mr flynn can match my ... well, not pessimism, perhaps, but worries.
*pardon the melodrama, please. obviously, it's not like i'd ice myself if spurs went under. but you know what i mean.

The Christmas Truce.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you Dave, and I suppose to the minions, as well, this once.
But may you succumb to the drop nevertheless...;)

"succumb to the drop"? well, maybe i can come up with a holiday wish for your lot, as well. :D
Merry Christmas, though, nick. have a good one.
and as far as i know, i'm still likely to be in chicago for a brief moment in early january. so if you're still there, we'll get a pint (or two) at the globe ... or ginger's ... or wherever.

so, we've got a cup match tomorrow in which not even the park lane stand is close to selling out - let alone any of the others. and a cup semi a few days later, with countless seats still available. only the south stand is close to full.
i sure hope 60k will be enough.

Pook - I have a feeling that two cup matches against less "attractive" opposition in such short order, immediately after Christmas, and during a tough economic time has a lot to do with the dearth of ticket sales.

i think pook is right, what we need is a smaller stadium with more expensive tickets!

oh, no worries there. we'll get higher ticket prices no matter the size.
i remember the poor misguided gooners who thought that adam smith's invisible hand would drop prices at the emirates. yeah, right. "there's a stadium to pay for, kids".
