DFL decided to have a first (and unfortunately probably last) All-Star-Game. It will be played in a mode North vs South in the Arena AufSchalke. The whole income will be donated to the victims of the flood catastrophe. A date for this game is not determined yet.

So it will be Bayern versus the rest of the league? ;)

Did they set a date? Winter break? While I commend the idea, IMHO it seems more detrimental to European leagues to have all-star games between League, Nation and Cups games there seems to be little time for recovery.

Yeah, trot the defending champs out against the rest of the league.

Oh, wait, you mean they didn't win anything last year?

Possible dates are September 3rd, but that's rather improbable as the national team plays the weekend after (EC qualifier). Next free date is October 8th - again it's the time of the national team, but on the following Saturday they are just having a friendly, followed by a EC qualifier on October 15th. Then December 18th would be a possibly - the weekend before is start of the winter break and this date is open for postponed games.

A mode Germans vs foreigners of the league would be better IMO. If separating into north and south you got 13 vs 5 teams by separating geographically - and if they want to even it artifically to create a 9 vs 9 situation you'd have to split Northrhine-Westphalia somewhere between either Bochum, Gelsenkirchen and Dortmund (which are three cities in 20 miles distance); four teams would be playing for the south where neither club nor supporters feel like belonging to them.

i think it doesn´t matter who plays against who and it really doesn´t matter who will win this game.
all fans would like to see entertaining football with a lot of goalsl.

I think north vs. south is a bad idea because of the geography. I think foreigners vs. Germans is the worst idea--so much for pulling together during hard times. I'd like to see an arbitrary split, where one coach can pick from all the teams assigned him, with one coach picking from all the even-placed teams (2,4,6,...) and the other coach picking from all odd-placed teams. Also, each coach has to pick players from each team, instead of picking only the best players from the best teams (otherwise you get 5 Bayern, 5 Dortmund, 5 Leverkusen, 5 Schalke, and that's kind of stupid). This should be mainly for fun and entertainment, so a lot of players should play.

Toyota Cup indeed is nothing.

Do you really still have problems with a game Germans vs foreigners? I think it's interesting regarding the sportive side. As this is only a fun game there won't be anybody chanting against foreigners if you're thinking of that. NHL is playing North America vs Rest of the world since years. Your choice with rankings is hardly possible. You've got to set a deadline for picking (isn't possible in the 3 days after the previous game) and this can look entirely different at the moment of the game.

As picking procedure I'd suggest to let the fans choose eleven players for each team for the first half + a coach for both teams. The elected coaches can determine a team of their own (with 22 different players) for the 2nd half.
