Can Al Ahly recover from the Pachuca defeat, or will it end like against Sydney FC in the 2005 match for 5th place?

It will end up like the Sydney FC match.

Match for 5th Place, 2005: Al Ahly 1-2 Sydney FC (then OFC Champion)

It might very well be that Ahly once again finishes the tournament on a low note against Australian opposition. Adelaide did better than expected against Gamba and must be in higher spirits. Still, I think an angry Al Ahly takes this one...

I know that Al Ahly will not be taking Adelaide United lightly. Unfortunately I really don't believe Al Ahly had all that great a game against Pachuca. They had very little of the possession in the first half and even less strikes on goal. The difference was they made their minimal forrays into the opposition's third count.

Adelaide will have to play as well as they did against Gamba to have a hope of shutting down Al Ahly, who will be angry and will be out to garner themselves a win. Adelaide will have to do one important thing they could not against Gamba: finish. Score. Put two or three in the back of the net instead of past or on the post.

My prediction? Al Ahly over Adelaide 1-0, or into extra time at 0-0 where Adelaide will take it 2-0.

Fulltime Adelaide 1-0 Al Ahly.

Goal to Cristiano in the first half, i didn't see the whole match, probably only saw the last 20 minutes. It was getting pretty scrappy by that stage. Apparently it was an okay match up until the goal.

Apparently it was an okay match up until the goal.

So 7 okay minutes and 83 minutes of dross?

Talk about damning with faint praise.

Lol, i don't know. It's just what i've been told. Like i said, i only saw the last 20 minutes. I was unaware of when the goal was scored.

It was a decent match with a good share of chances for both sides (Ahly not so much in the first half). I was looking at that goal coming up, as soon as I saw Cristiano take off I said at my monitor "Have a crack at it, son!", he did and scored. Couldn't have been happier about the outcome.

And that concludes Ahly's very disappointing 2008 CWC campaign. Australian opposition doesn't seem to suit them. Adelaide played well the first 15 minutes, scored a great goal, and then managed to hold on the rest of the match. Adelaide can be happy with their tournament performance - they did better than expected.
